Toyota holds on: Ranks as 3rd best

Honda and Subaru were ranked the best overall car manufacturers in the new Consumer Reports auto survey released yesterday -- but recall-battered Toyota did surprising well, too, coming in a close third.

Honda and Subaru tied for first place with a total score of 77 based on reliability, performance, comfort and utility -- while Toyota was next with a score of 74, the report said.

Hyundai's Elantra SE, which lists for $18,695, was ranked the best small sedan.

The automaker was then followed by Nissan, with an average score of 72. Its Altima, which sells for $23,970, was the family-sedan top pick.

This recent witchhunt of Toyota smells an awful lot to me like an all-out blitz my Obama and Union thugs to try to sway consumers away from the Toyota brand name, and into the warm touchy-feely arms of GM.

It’s not gonna work. Pound-for-pound, Toyota still makes a much more reliable and safe auto.

This is what happens when actual car owners get to vote. Toyota has made solid products for many years, and the shenanigans coming out of Washington don’t change that. We’ve had our Sienna van since 2004, and we’ve never had a major issue of any kind, and never been left stranded by it. My biggest gripe has been with some of the door seals - annoying, but not unsafe.

Read anything in CR with a HUGE grain of salty skepticism. In my business (high end audio), the “recommendations” of CR is so off base it would be considered as pure Pravda-like propaganda without any basis of truth.

“Not a single American manufacturer cracked the top 10 of overall best manufacturers. Ford came in at No. 11 with an average score of 64. General Motors had a 57 average score and Chrysler an abysmal 46”

ouch

As for Toyotas I've owned three new ones since 95 and still have my last, a 2000 Camry which runs just fine. I was extremely pleased with every Toyota I purchased. Very reliable, low maintenance, and good on gas. Another thing that should be mentioned is resale value. My wife totaled a Corolla out a few years back and we ended up getting 7 grand back on top of paying off the loan! After saying all this I recently purchased an 09 Honda Accord that I'm very pleased with as well.

I have a seven year old Tacoma with 70,000+ miles and it still looks and drives like brand new. (Well, except for that little ding on the back bumper.)

CR Sucks.

I wouldn’t believe anything they print.

They long ago dropped any pretense of being objective in favor of all things “green”.

And don’t forget Consumers Union is advocating for Obamacare.

And yet Chrysler makes Jeep and I've never had any trouble with my Jeep.....
Of course there are so many aftermarket parts on the Jeep that you would be hard pressed to know that it was originally manufactured by Chrysler. ";^)

Subaru may be at the top for the tree hugging socialist but Toyota IMHO builds the best product. I never bought a japanese product until my Toyota Sequoia. Best truck/car I’ve ever owned! 140,000 care free miles. I know 6 people with that feel the same way.

Until last weekend (we bought a new Toyota Venza), we have owned a Jeep continuously since 1993. The Jeep Commander we just traded in probably gave us the most problems, and the transmission started slipping, but other than that, we never had any major problems with Jeeps. We owned almost every model within that 20 year period.

When GM became Government Motors last year, we made the decision that they lost our loyalty. It will take a while to get used to, but the Toyota Venza has been wonderful so far. And the gas we are saving is already being noticed. Jeep, and GM lost us, but Toyota may have gained us (we will decide in three years whether to stay Toyota costumers, or try out a new brand).

I will buy 10 Toyotas (as long as they're not UNION MADE) before I buy anything American. Sad that the unions are led by bolsheviks.

Buying American is voting for obama...and then kissing his ass.

wife and I bought a sequoia too after we had our third kid. Besides not being good on gas that thing is great, handles and feels rock solid and here in the frozen north, it’s reliable and has never offered up any kind of problem. The only real problem is, you get spoiled, makes it hard to drive anything else heh

Love my Sequoia!
Drives beautifully.
My large family is comfortably seated.
I always make it home when it’s snowing.

Since we switched to Toyota vehicles nearly 5 years ago we have never broken down.
We have not had one major repair expense.

We just take them in for oil changes - upkeep of brakes - and we buy new tires.

The Nissan Altima, dollar for dollar in any way you care to measure, is the best product of its kind on the market.

I have 5 prius’ in my family business. 2001, 2003, 2005, 2010, 2010. These fine cars are are being “beat to shit” by “0” and the union thugs to drive Toyoto down.

We had the brake problems on the 2010’s. Acted like a ‘50 ford when the brake fluid was low. Corrected itself in a millisecond! The only way it happened was when I went over a railroad crossing and pressed the brakes to slow down. Both front wheels bounced at the same time. A rare instance!

The problem was fixed right away at the dealer. Computers run almost all of the new cars. They all have glitches from time to time. Common sense and experience will get one thru most of them. The brakes have mechanical back ups.
Do people with any common sense believe that G.M, now owned by the unions and the “0” government would react as Toyota,Mercedes, Honda do? If so, lets go buy the Brooklyn Bridge......
