Well, the fact of the matter is that we do have an adversarial legal system. Yes, attorney's must be advocates for their client, but they can't break the law in furtherance of that advocacy. They (we) are advocates, but also officers of the court. Most attorneys have no problem meeting both obligations, although occasionally some do. Those usually - in time - end up disbarred, or behind bars themselves.
Call me old fashioned. And I haven't even hit 50, yet.
