One thing about Phil Spector’s “Wall of Sound” that recently struck me was that it was geared for the little transistor radios of the time. When you hear those songs on CD on a good sound system, they all sound rather tinny and schlocky.

Jack Nitzsche was just as responsible for that Wall of Sound. It must have made for some great arguments between big city Jew  and small town Germanic Michigan boy. Jack Nitzsche worked with everyone and really needs a biography written and I know the man who is doing it. Same guy who wrote "Shaky" about Neil Young

They were made for vinyl. A lot of old vinyl sounds tinny on CD. I was disappointed when early CD versions of the old stuff came out and sounded harsh. I think the secret is remastering it properly. When I hear Motown on the radio, I think it sounds great.
