Obama rejects criticism of his agenda as "socialism" Photo 3:22pm EST

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama launched a vigorous defense of his economic agenda on Wednesday, rejecting critics who call his policies "socialism" and insisting he aims to boost U.S. competitiveness abroad.
Speaking to the Business Roundtable, which groups some of the country's top chief executives, Obama called for support of his administration's efforts to overhaul financial regulation, revamp the health insurance industry and create jobs.
"Contrary to the claims of some of my critics and some of the editorial pages, I am an ardent believer in the free market," Obama said in remarks that were set against a backdrop of unease in the business community about his economic policies and legislative priorities.
Businesses -- and opposition Republicans -- are wary of the Obama administration's regulatory zeal in areas such as healthcare and energy policy, and worry about a perceived tendency to increase spending rather than lower taxes.
Obama, a Democrat, said his efforts to enact sweeping legislation to overhaul financial regulations and set caps on carbon emissions to fight climate change were not aimed at thwarting businesses, and he reminded his audience that his $787 billion stimulus package included major tax cuts.
"We have arrived at a juncture in our politics where reasonable efforts to update our regulations, or make basic investments in our future, are too often greeted with cries of 'government takeover' or even 'socialism,'" Obama said.

How would criticism of his agenda be socialism?
I’d like the President to give us the definition of Socialism. And then explain to us again how his plan is NOT socialism...
Yeah, but what this means in Obamaworld is the Market gets to earn the wealth and the government gets to spend the wealth.
Is your use of the term “mulatto” intended to be a racist derogatory remark?
And I don't need no Marxism
nobama+ socialist, marxist, anti-American, statist...LOSER! There...I said it.
More specifically;
The word mulatto is derived from the Arabic muwallad, which originally referred to persons who were not genuine Arabs, especially individuals born of black-white misalliances.
But he’s right: his policies are not socialist, they are fascist. He does not propose to have the state own things, but to set rigid policies on how the owners can use them. Socialist loses the support of Wall Street, fascist keeps it and still accretes power to the state.
“nobama+ socialist, marxist, anti-American, statist...LOSER! There...I said it.”
Yes you did and said it very well!
But racism has no place in this country. You deny your post has a racist intent, but your defense still leaves me thinking otherwise. The word mulatto is in fact a derogatory term today, whether it was in the middle ages or not. Biracial, multi-racial, and even mixed-race are non-offensive terms.
The common man didn't give a $h!t and never curtailed his language.
(Uset'a be that the word "sin" had meaning and weight. Now it is all but gone from common language ... no word .. no concept .. no act ... no God .... It's not a difficult chain of connections to make)
I was part of the ushering in of "political correctness" in the '60's.
Now, 40 years later, I have decided ... mull that phrase over a little ... I have decided ... to no longer be politically correct nor inoffensive.
My days on earth are a lot less now, and I don't have the luxury of time.
Neither does America.
Obama is the last power/influence to bring the total destruction of a once great nation.
Don't believe it?
Then you and I have no common ground.
I'm an old fart with an attitude and not much time left.
This would be hilarious, if it weren't so tragic.
1. "smart government" is big government code for "big government".
2. Notice when he says...It's not about being anti-business or pro-government... he carefully omits saying the word..."private". One suspects that he's not anti-business, he's anti PRIVATELY owned business.
.
Contrary to the claims of some of my critics and some of the editorial pages, I am an ardent believer in the free market.
If "ardent believer in" means "enthusiastic supporter of a free-market economy for the United States"... then one suspects he is telling a premeditated (and I wish there were a more respectful word that worked here)... lie.
.
I'm all for speaking ones mind. I'm not for denigrating an entire class of people because of anger for one. Each person is an individual and deserves respect as an individual, independent of race. I think God would agree.
I have three mixed-race children, so I pay attention.
Obama wont destroy this country, it will take a lot more than one man to do that. In fact his mistakes will likely make the country stronger by showing the contrast. It looks like we may need to repeat the lessons of Russia before we truly learn that human nature is self serving and the best way to harness that for the betterment of man is freedom, not servitude to the state.
.
Its not socialism,
It’s Marxist socialism!
