Not wishing to diminish the importance of the service of war animals, I respectfully submit that the animals were doing only what they have been trained to do without any heroics involved. The trainer and handler are the real heros for being able to train the animals to do their job without (or rarely) causing injury to themselves or others. I love dogs. All of my adult life I've owned a series of Great Danes. My admiration for handlers and their dogs is deep.
