Rep. Ron Paul facing unrest at home
Houston Chronicle ^ | February 24, 2010 | MEREDITH SIMONS

WASHINGTON — In D.C. political circles, Texas Rep. Ron Paul is the quirky icon of libertarian conservatism, a cult figure on American college campuses with a national following large enough to help him capture the presidential poll at the nation's pre-eminent conservative action conference last weekend.

But while Paul basks in the applause of conservatives at a Washington hotel, he can't afford to ignore the three self-described conservatives who are assailing his conservative credentials back at home.

“He's as bad as the rest of them,” says Gerald Wall, one of three Republicans challenging the incumbent in the March 2 GOP primary.

Paul, 74, charges Wall, is a “career politician” who ignores the wishes of voters back home, a conservative poseur who doesn't walk the walk when it comes to pork-barrel spending.

Gay also says Paul is not sufficiently involved in the district.

“He's not ... not addressing the concerns of the people of the district,” Gay said.

Fair enough, but how exactly would Gay better address the concerns of the people in that district?

“While a glimmer of common sense seeps through in some of his rhetoric, he doesn’t seem to be “all there” on an everyday, common sense sort of basis. He comes across as an eccentric nut, actually.”

yes, he seems very odd in a way that has nothing to do with his positions.

cPAC has "outed" themselves this year more than ever. This is the Establishment, Elitist GOP who thinks the Big Tent is the right strategy. The architects are David Keene who has been bought and paid for by none other than Willard "Mitt" Romney. Here's a couple threads that highlight the elitism and anti-conservative groups and interests represented now at cPAC - Linda Chavez and ILLEGAL immigration and ad nauseam about GOProud.

His Dist. deserves better.

I’m not sure what is elitist about allowing illegals into this country. I don’t have a problem with ‘elitism.’ I’m all for making English the only official language of this country. I think that every American should be able to pass the same citizenship test that we give immigrants in order to be able to vote. It is something every American can do if they made it their priority.

He got 52,000 votes in the primary here in FL. Yet he had the most stickers and signs all around.

McLame got around 800,000.

"Paul is actually very encouraged by the anti-incumbent sentiment out there right now."

Has anybody informed the lunatic Paul that he IS the incumbent?

Ron Paul is a nutjob

If by nut job you mean that he's the most small-government, pro liberty politician in the USA, then yes. Those with views to the left of small-government types call Constitutionalists all kinds of names; nut job and hatemonger are the two most common. In fact, over half of the residents of the pre-state colonies called our founding fathers the same exact things. But thank God they stood true and won our freedom from big government tyranny.

But, for all of you that hate Dr. Paul, never fear. I heard him in an interview with Wolf Blitzer yesterday and Paul slipped up and stated that he was soon to retire. So, when that happens, and there is no authentic voice for strict Constitutionalism left in Washington, you can go to bed after (as Mark Levin so eloquently stated) your work is done in the rice fields at the command of your communist government.

Packing a bill with pork and then being honest by voting for it is one thing.

Doing the same but voting against it so one can lie about one’s record as a big spender is another.

Ron Paul should follow his own advice and run as a Libertarian or Independent.

The strongest message can be sent by rejecting the two party system. This can be accomplished by voting for one of the non-establishment, principled candidates.- Ron Paul

I always wonder why he doesn't follow his own advice to voters and just become one of these 'non-establishment' candidates. (by the way, the non-establishment candidates he was recommending people vote for were Cynthia McKinney, Ralph Nader, or Chuck Baldwin). I think everyone should take Ron's advice and vote for one of the non-establishment candidates, in other words, not Ron Paul.

I hate to say it, folks, but in addition to taking the GOP back for conservatism, we may just have to take the Tea Parties back for conservatism, as well.

I'm glad you noticed that. We're trying to get others to notice also.

Yep, just another example of Paul's blatant hypocrisy. He and his disciples run on the Republican ticket because they know they can't get elected on their silly thrid-party tickets.

The Libertarians hate Republicans more than they do Democrats and their motives in infiltrating the GOP are less than honorable. After all, Paultards march with Code Pink and ANSWER. You won't see any conservatives doing such abominable things.

Also, people need to remember that the president of Google paid hundreds of campaign workers for the Ron Paul 2008 campaign. They flooded New Hampshire, for example. Google’s politics are far left. They know what they’re doing by backing a spoiler who takes votes away from Republican candidates.
