Sure it is as long as there are governments willing to confiscate their citizens money at gunpoint and reward these 'investors'. That was really the plan all along.

Anyone can get rich raising tomatoes in a desert if the government subsidizes the water and penalizes other growers.

Doesn't matter if it's a hoax. If you can persuade enough people that we must eliminate the use of fossil fuels, and if you can then get the suckers to pay a transaction fee on trading carbon offsets, it will be immensely lucrative for you.

New ice age arrives? Gorebots will say, "We were right! Look what we did! We stopped global warming cold!"

Planet heats up? Gorebots will say, "We didn't do enough and must redouble our efforts."
