Regardless, Gov. Rick Perry has fared relatively well, perhaps because of his anti-Washington rhetoric and his careful immigration stance, a recent poll indicates.
It shows more than half of Texas Hispanics call themselves conservative, and a surprising 23 percent say they might participate in Tuesday's GOP primary. Among those, Perry leads Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison by 2 to 1, according to the poll, commissioned by an Austin consultant for a national group of Hispanic legislative leaders...
Sen. Leticia Van de Putte, D-San Antonio, said the poll hints at a little-noticed facet of Perry's political persona: He doesn't frighten Hispanics because he often visits their communities, and he distances himself from immigration hard-liners in the GOP.
"He thought the border wall was a little ridiculous and didn't think it was going to help,"... "What he wanted to keep out were those people that are smuggling drugs and people."
...But she said many Hispanics remember that Perry signed a 2001 bill that let illegal immigrants pay in-state tuition at public colleges. He has defended the bill, saying affected students have studied hard in Texas schools and will be good citizens. ...
The poll found that only 18 percent of Texas Hispanics say they're liberal or progressive, while 54 percent say they're conservative, moderate conservative or religiously conservative.
But Camarillo said many Hispanics who identify themselves as conservative aren't talking about "less taxes, less government," the way white conservatives would.
"When a Latino says that he or she is conservative, they're thinking about how they are raising the kids and ... the family," she said. "It's more about work ethic, and that when you give your word, you give your word. ...

What does that have to do with whether they are protestants, and whether, as protestants, they vote conservatively?

Fifty percent of Hispanic children in America are born illegitimate. I do not expect them to grow up and vote Republican.
Of course the Hispanic community is not monolithic, we may make inroads in certain groups or cultures, but the overall situation for Conservatives is much more negative than positive.
A lot of “Hispanics” ARE conservative, no doubt about it.
However, their families have been citizens since they helped Sam Houston whip Santa Anna.
Now, as for recent immigrants and invading barbarians (aka illegal aliens), somehow, I suspect they weren’t polled. I suspect most of the will vote for all the “free stuff” they can get.
Yes I have and I am surrounded by them right now but what does that have to do with what I posted, why does learning about the Republican Protestant Hispanic vote annoy you so instead of pleasing you?

Bill Frist and Dennis Hastert should paste these numbers on their bathroom mirrors and think about them each morning while they shave:
• 32 percent of Hispanics voting in the 2004 presidential election identified themselves as Protestants, up from 25 percent in 2000.
• 56 percent of those Hispanic Protestants voted to re-elect President Bush, up from the 44 percent supporting him four years earlier.

Does the Hispanic evangelical vote support amnesty? If so, then it is suicidal to court their vote if that is a precondition for them to vote Rep. Bush and McCain supported amnesty. I seriously doubt that the Rep candidate in 2012 will do so.

When “Juan” McCain and “Jorge” Bush are nasty insults, the only message sent out is we hate Hispanics. Regardless of their values, you don’t vote for people who hate you and consider you trash and don’t try to hide it.
Never mind all the Texican Hispanics who died on OUR side at the Alamo or how many generations their families have lived here. It’s all painted with one brush.
This can't be emphasized strongly enough. It's a do or die situation. If we surrender the Hispanic vote to the left, we lose the country forever. There is no other option.
I have lived in several cities where Hispanics are in the majority. They have inevitably been Democratic fiefdoms run along the lines of Mexican political practices and patronage (not to mention corruption). Anglo politicians, El Paso State Senator Eliot Shapleigh comes to mind, pander as hard and as fast as they can, to the point of cultivating constituencies inside Mexico and accepting awards from the Mexican government for their work undermining US immigration laws. But I digress. As I mentioned earlier, fewer than a third of Hispanics are protestant, let’s say, 30 percent. Given the voting record of 2008, that would mean that 15 percent of any Hispanic population might, just might, be inclined to vote conservatively at any given time. This is not ever going to make a difference. The Left counts on the Hispanic vote because it is theirs. Amnesty will result in permanent Democratic control, and it will inevitably be corrupt. I am not annoyed that (some) Protestant Hispanics vote Republican. I just don’t think it makes that much difference in the larger scheme of things.
BULL! If that were the case, democrats would be so keen upon making them citizens and VOTERS!!

I’m just amazed at how resistant to good news some of you are, Republicans can win over many Hispanics by reaching them through the media filter and appealing to their social conservatism.
To do that we first have to be willing to approach them and talk to them and tell them about the left/right division in America and what the Democrat party actually represents behind the media snow job.
When I speak to Hispanics I hear the conservatism and can win their strong agreement on much that they find important and what they find repulsive, the Republicans have to learn to talk to them.
By showing that the Protestant Hispanics are voting differently than the Catholics Hispanics, it proves that it has something to do with the message that is reaching them, that means that we can start looking at that and figure out how to reach them.
