The Defense Can be Worse Than The Allegation (Socialized Medicine)

When Canadian Premier Danny Williams left Canada to pay for medical treatment in the United States he could otherwise have gotten for free, I asked rhetorically if a better case against socialized medicine. That question has been answered with a resounding yes; the justification / defense of those leaders makes for an even better case.

I went through Canadian Premier Danny Williams statements and 'translated' them so that everyone could understand what I presume he really meant.

Bottom line; Quote - ""I'm probably going to be around for a long time, hopefully, if God willing," he said." Translation - Please do not screw up your medical system America, I might need to make use of it in the future.

As Williams said: “it's my body, my health, and my choice”. The only thing that bothers me about rich politicians going to the U.S. for health care; is that they (politicians, collectively) make it impossible for ordinary, middle-class folk to do the same. We aren't permitted to buy supplementary insurance, which would make premium U.S. health care available for most people, who really need it. You have to have deep enough pockets to pay the whole tab, with no help from insurance companies. Monopolies are generally not good for you — government monopolies are downright dangerous.

You are probably familiar with the concept of “nomenklatura,” from the Soviet Union. This episode makes it clear that a nomenklatura has been established and is in operation in Canada, and is being prepared for us.

There's a nomenklatura for sure — but, this isn't quite the same thing. Williams is independently wealthy — he used his own funds to pay for his treatment. He could have (as many others in his position have done) used his political power to get special treatment & that would be an example of the perks of nomenklatura.

Essentially, all monopolies are government monopolies in that they mostly cannot exist without protection by government. A monopoly that exists without government mercantilist protection does s o because it offers services or products cheaper and of better quality than anyone else can, in which case there is no reason to oppose it. Government protection allows a monopoly to offer goods and services without competition that others could offer cheaper or of better quality if they were not barred from the market.
