The United States announced Tuesday that it has chosen a cutting-edge, energy-efficient design by acclaimed US architecture firm KieranTimberlake for its future embassy in Britain.
The building, a towering glass cube covered with a thin sheath of photo-voltaic cells "met the goal of creating a modern, welcoming, timeless, safe and energy-efficient embassy for the 21st century," the State Department said.
"The concept holds the greatest potential for developing a truly iconic embassy and is on the leading edge of sustainable design."

It’s right on the street. What would one good-sized car bomb do to all the people sitting behind that glass?
I guess you could call a box timeless. So is a stick.
What is wrong with the existing one?
Not enough photo-voltaics.
The Brits should cut all diplomatic ties just for us suggesting it!
hmmm, very Borg
It looks like one of those disposable flash cubes wrapped in panty hose.
Yuck.
For security, they’d better put some minarets on it.
The current one, though it appears to be very solidly constructed of reinforced concrete, is too close to the street and vulnerable to vehicle-borne explosives, it seems to me.
But judging from this illustration, this appears as if it will be less solidly constructed and also vulnerable to street attack.
Not sure how much use they'll be in London !
As for Wandsworth for a location, the place must've changed a lot . . . .
It's a rectangle prism. Just wont do....
People who live in glass houses need to be very sure where they are when thing start to go bad because everyone can see what you are doing all the time and that may not be to your advantage!!!
How pathetic.
I see a 1970s “international style” knock-off in a cheap trendy PC suit.
And there are literally freaking trees on the upper opening, really?
Why not just add super graphics that say “We’re Green” see? we even gave a corner office to the mighty Elm
Design by committee, and an unimaginative PC committee at that.
I've been in newer fed buildings that have measures to prevent/stop the glass shrapnel
It looks like the Borg have landed...
That does not even look like London to me.
I find the resemblance disturbing. It looks like the cube in Mecca with the outside covered by the skin of the World Trade Center.
Funny thing- I’ll bet Chaz has a say in the design.
He has big Architectural opinions such as “Critical Regionalism” which means (in a nut shell) the new buildings need to look like the older ones. If he had his way, everything would look like antiquity.
But I guess the “Green” crap trumps that.
