I didn’t realize invertebrates have umbilical cords.

Oh, yes! There is a strange genus of political animal known widely as democratus Vulgaris that is best known for it's leeching ways.

Once thought to be plentiful to the point of serious nuisance, it is now apparently threatened with extinction.

Despite the seemingly alarming consequences of this display Darwinian finality, there does not appear to be much public concern over the impending disappearance of this mammalian atavism.

Although safely smooshed in history books for future generations to pore and ponder over, it's imminent demise on the political landscape seems equally safely assured.
