“Britain isn’t going to give them up.

Exactly what the British Citizens of Hong Kong thought, but they are still there.”

The LEASE on Hong Kong had expired. There is no lease on the Falklands. They are British, the population wish to remain British, British blood was spilt for them in 1982, and that should end the matter.

Argentina really have no plausible case. If taken to the UN it would be thrown out on the grounds of the population’s self-determination rights. If taken to the battlefield, well.......it wouldn’t be pretty.

The LEASE on Hong Kong had expired.

Not even the argument. Even China did not expect that Briton would abandon Hong Kong, and I for one couldn't believe they would do it and demand that every British Born citizen would remain there.

I know the difference in Hong Kong and the Falklands, and I know the difference in Thatcher and Brown. Apparently you don't.

The British citizens in Hong Kong we ALWAYS aware that the lease to the New territories would eventually expire, and were aware that Britain intended to hand over all of Hong Kong at least 20 years before 1997. There are no British citizens OF Hong Kong. Non British citizens born in Hong Kong were always Chinese citizens, they were just ruled administratively by Britain until the 99 year lease ran out in 1997.

Excuse me? Britain (that’s “Britain” by the way, not “Briton”) had an agreement with China. I’m sorry if it amazed you so much that Britain kept its word.

They will keep their word regarding the Falklands too, Brown or no Brown.

It’s a General Election year for pete’s sake. Do you really think Brown would be dumb enough to backdown over the Falklands with an election coming in May?

Oh, I know the difference between Margaret Thatcher and Gordon Brown thanks. I’ve lived under both administrations. I know which one I prefer. Thatcher stands alone. I’m sure we can both agree on that at least!

Briton |ˈbritn|
noun
1 a citizen or native of Great Britain.
• a person of British descent.
2 one of the people of southern Britain before and during Roman times.
ORIGIN from Old French Breton, from Latin Britto, Britton-, or its Celtic
equivalent.

My bad, spell check does not check grammar.

That was a cheap shot of mine, picking you up on spelling. It's just that the Falkland's situation causes quite a bit of passion in Britain. We lost a lot of good men there.

She can cede Britain back to the Normans too. Would be nice for the milenium celebration in 2066.

I challenge all FReepers to keep praying for continued drought in Venenzuela. A few more months of electricity and water shortages might just do him in.

Seeing his lifless carcass being drug through the streets of Caracas will be a welcome sight
