Hugo Chávez may be wondering, as Venezuela's taps run dry and its cities fall into darkness, whether God is on the side of the Yankees.
The El Niño weather phenomenon appears to be taking sides as it parches leftist-ruled parts of South America and brings bounty to US farmers and corporations. One of the severest droughts in decades has given Venezuela's socialist president a political nightmare as hydro-electrical power dribbles to a standstill, unleashing blackouts, rationing and protests. The waters behind the Guri dam, which supplies more than half the nation's power, have touched perilously low levels. Chávez has declared an "electricity emergency", urging people to spend no more than three minutes in the shower. The president has even dispatched Cuban pilots to seed clouds for rain.
The state oil company Edelca has aimed higher: it summoned workers to a prayer meeting entitled "Clamour to God for the National Electricity Sector".
The crisis has extended to Paraguay, where another leftist leader, Fernando Lugo, ordered the presidential palace lights switched off. In Argentina and Brazil also with leftist governments torrential rain and high temperatures have blighted crops with insect and fungi attacks.

Yeah, I hear they had 70 years of bad weather in the Soviet Union, too.
But the climate improved greatly after they got rid of communism.....
Hugo Chavez announced today that he has proof the United States have not only perfected, but has used an EMP bomb on his country and will call on the UN to apply sanctions to all of China's exports into the nation.
He was seen taking off his shoe and pounding his desk muttering, "We will bury you"
Same happening in another large American leftist country, a bit to the North, where a recent 30” snowstorm has stymied their capital. And, a bit furthur to the North of that capital escapes this blizzard, just after electing a non-leftist politician, from a leftist sanctuary for over 50 years.
Exactly. Nothing but lies and excuses.
That’s because God love conservatives and hates paper pushing commie Yale lawyers and their pierced tonged bootlickers, hunchbacked coat holders and sycophant fly eaters.
Maybe if Venezuela got rid of communism God could hear their prayers more clearly. I hope the churches in Venezeula don't collaborate in this farce. All Hugo believes in is Marx, Engels and dialectical materialism!
Communism is much more important than building reserve capacity, power lines, water plants, roads, etc.
‘Thats because God love conservatives and hates paper pushing commie Yale lawyers and their pierced tonged bootlickers, hunchbacked coat holders and sycophant fly eaters.’
Not sure that God hate’s anything(I’m not God) but I’m sure he is sadden by the spiritually confused left.
Just like North Korea - its always the weather’s fault they are having famine....
It’s the fault of Karl Rove’s evil weather machine, don’t you know?
A couple of this article’s assertions/assumptions are in error. Yes, the water at Guri is low, but in addition, about a quarter of their generators were no longer working because they were not properly maintained by the Chavez government. Chavez put his lackeys, rather than competent engineers, in charge. The “foreign experts” Chavez has brought in are Cubans who are experts in oppression, rather than experts in running an electricity-generating operation.
Surprised these leftdolts didn’t got the whole way and say either (1) this is because of gorebull warming and therefore GW’s fault or (2) this is because of Cheney’s weather control machine and therefore GW’s fault. /snark, but barely...
Funny how socialism and epic droughts always seem to coincide. Weird.
Just a coincidence....;-)
Not a coincidence. GOD is a conservative, that’s why commies don’t believe in GOD.
