Their "known Communists" included Eisenhower. We know now that there were plenty of real Communists in Washington from the thirties through the fifties: Alger Hiss, Harry Dexter White, etc. But by calling essentially every single public official in America a Soviet agent, they provided a de facto cover to the real Soviet agents. They are a joke and an embarrassment.
DC is essentially packed with communists and socialists currently, so being incorrect on one politician 30 years ago doesn't a kook organization make. They also are very anti-UN and one world government. They seem to me to be the Palin of organizations, people hate them because the MSM and University profs say..."They are right wing kooks".

The Birchers also think the Queen of England runs drugs with Castro or some such bizarreness. They believe that a secret Trilateral Commission runs the whole world with a shadow government, and are huge conspiracy theorists. Tri-lateral killed JFK, etc. If I am wrong on a detail here and there perhaps someone with a more intimate knowledge of the Birchers can correct me.
That was 50-odd years ago. Talk about holding a grudge.
Do you still hate the British for their taxation-without-representation bit when we were the Colonies?
Bullwinkle had a line about the “Birch John Society”; the definition being the society for the preservation of wooden toilet seats.
