The middle of the desert would seem to me a safe place to put it. What am I missing? Huge camel spiders and Bedouins looking for something to sell at the bazaar

How about encasing the waste in glass and putting them in salt domes? Texas has a LOT of disused oilfields that are beneath salt domes and we could use these salt domes to encase the waste.
