Obama on health-care summit: Let’s play nice or else I’ll nuke you with reconciliation

An efficient bit of political theater, capped by his insistence that “I don’t want to see this meeting turn into political theater.” It’s a little late for that, champ:

It is now clear that the “summit” the president has called for February 25 is not intended to consider different approaches to health care financing, but rather to create an illusion of momentum that might just lull disoriented congressional Democrats into ramming the health care bill through the budget reconciliation process…

The timing of this move (just after a congressional recess, when members of Congress won’t be spending much time at home again until Easter), the nature of the health care summit (a public relations spectacle intended to generate buzz in the political press more than to appeal to the public), and the character of the legislative plan (a quick hard push through reconciliation to avoid debate, amendments, and too much time to think) all seem designed to bamboozle rank and file Democratic members of Congress into taking a suicidal vote. But they are also aimed to slip the bill past the public, not yet alert to the danger. This stratagem is the perfect finale to a yearlong circus that has exposed the ugliest side of our politics.

With their plans to press ahead now clear, the Democrats have given Republicans little choice but to restate the full indictment of Obamacare at the summit and beyond.

The R-word is never uttered in the clip, but then why would it be? He has other people around to wave the stick for him while he’s busy offering carrots, from unnamed Democratic aides leaking to the Times (“It will be a reconciliation bill”) to threats about ramming through the public option from Reid’s office.

The subtitle should read “I won, give me what I want, or else I’ll nuke you with reconciliation.”

It is confidence building that the only ones he would nuke would be Republicans. He would have a little credibility had he vetoed the porkulus bill, but, alas, he has none.

And I’m sure she went home to her flat screen TV with 200+ satellite channels. How could we expect her to survive without such a basic necessity?

Bring it. I would leave him in a room by himself. Live.

Great Suggestion... Yes CSPAN...

I am very worried that our Republican ‘Leader’ just do not ‘get’ what is going on. And believe that they will have an equal voice in the Obama Trick meeting.

Republicans must take charge - act like. Obama, Reid and Pelosi and the rest of the Demorats are on the ropes and WE SHOULD KNOCK THEM OUT... not play like friends in the sandbox.

Throw sand in their face instead.

There are a whole lot of Republican Congress men and women we need to vote out too. Wienies ...

From your lips to GOD's ears. Thanks for your service. (Hubby is retired Senior Chief)

Rename, repackage, rewrite it a tad smaller, and sell another pig in a poke.

Tennessee has joined several other states in trying to pass a Health Care Freedom Act. NO COLAs for granny, retired Military or retired fed employees. BIG NEW fees for Tricare for Life retired over 65 Military's secondary health ins. (DOD bill already passed, delayed but goes into effect 2011)

Obama says slight fix will extend Social Security

TRI CARE FOR LIFE This from a google search:

http://economicspolitics.blogspot.com/2009/05/tricare-for-life-is-obama-trying-to.html

This option would help reduce the costs of TFL, as well as costs for Medicare, by introducing minimum out-of pocket requirements for beneficiaries. Under this option, TFL would not cover any of the first $525 of an enrollee’s cost-sharing liabilities for calendar year 2011 and would limit coverage to 50 percent of the next $4,725 in Medicare cost sharing that the beneficiary incurred. (Because all further cost sharing would be covered by TFL, enrollees could not pay more than $2,888 in cost sharing in that year.)

Congress plans to block Tricare fee increases
http://www.armytimes.com/news/2009/10/military_tricarefees_blocked_100709w

By Rick Maze - Staff writer, Oct 7, 2009

Tricare fee increases imposed last week by the Defense Department will be repealed by a provision of the compromise 2010 defense authorization bill unveiled Wednesday by House and Senate negotiators.

Snip

The fee increases were announced on Sept. 30 and took effect on Oct. 1, but the defense bill, HR 2647, includes a provision barring any fee increases until the start of fiscal 2011.

Snip

Retired Army Maj. Gen. Bill Matz, president of the National Association for Uniformed Services, said the announcement of fee increases was shocking considering that the Obama administration promised earlier this year to hold off on any new fee Tricare fee increases until fiscal 2011.

“President Obama and DoD assured NAUS and the entire military family earlier this year that there would rightly be no increases in any Tricare fees” in fiscal 2010, Matz said. “We took them at their word, and I can’t believe that a co-pay increase like this was allowed to go forward,” he added.

There will be a list circulated of every congressHO that votes for the reconciliation and efforts redoubled to take him/her out at election time...(election-speaking, of course)

I was hoping we could get rid of Senator Mary Landrieu in 2012 but now her brother has been elected mayor of New Orleans and I am sure she thinks that will have a positive effect on her re-election. The Louisiana Purchaser is still in the drivers seat so far.

" her brother has been elected mayor of New Orleans"

But didn't I read about her being in trouble for doing something shady to help her brother get elected, like with the money or something?

She might squeak back in, but her bribe-taking will be long remembered.

If that is so, it is not publicized. I will always remember her sell out of America, hopefully others do as well. She was almost defeated once but the last time she ran we really didn't have the candidate needed to beat her.
