Most Southern States do not have Party registration. In Georgia, I can ask for a Republican or Democrat ballot with each Primary that I vote in. I am reasonably certain that the same goes in Texas.

Also for those that don't know, this is a really big controversy. This means that if one Party has a really strong candidate the party faithful will “crossover” and vote in the opposite primary for the weakest opposing party candidate with the knowledge that it will never hurt their candidate. It's what you might say is a legally sanctioned dirty trick but could happen to either party year-over-year .
