PHOENIX -- Ariz. Sen. John McCain got in some early campaigning as he appeared Thursday with guest host John Hook on "Ankarlo Mornings" on News/Talk 92-3 KTAR.
McCain said he has no problem being challenged by former Congressman J.D. Hayworth in this fall's Republican primary. He said he has always taken every race seriously, always anticipated tough races and always worked hard.
McCain, seeking his fifth term in the Senate, said Arizona is "hurting badly right now" and, "The question in this election will be, who can be most effective for the state of Arizona and help the people of Arizona. I think it's pretty obvious. I'll be chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee when Republicans regain the majority. I have been working hard. J.D. Hayworth was thrown out of office by the voters in 2006."
McCain added, "I'll be glad to compare our records and our knowledge and our background, but most of all, who can serve Arizona most effectively?"
McCain was accompanied by two men who were prisoners of war with him in Vietnam -- Col. Orson Swindle and Col. Bud Day. He said they would be with him at a rally later in the day for veterans who support the senator's re-election.
McCain said the United States is enjoying "clear success" in Iraq since the troop surge, which he supported.
The war in Afghanistan is "hard" and "tough" and casualties will go up as fighting intensifies, he said, but added the U.S. military is the best-trained and best-equipped military in history and it will prevail.
As for the "Tea Party" movement, pushing for a more conservative bent in Washington, McCain said it wants less taxes, less government and less spending and that it is "great for America."
"One of the reasons the Tea Party has done so well," McCain said, "is that this president was elected and people believed he would be a centrist president. Instead, he has governed from the far left. America is a right-of-center nation and they feel all this disconnect because he is trying to impose big government on the American people."
McCain, the 2008 GOP presidential nominee, said Obama's stimulus package has been a disaster, filled with earmarks and wasteful spending.
Asked about Hayworth's claim that McCain has joined liberals in opposing tough measures against terrorist suspects, McCain said that is not true. He said he opposes torturous interrogation techniques, such as water-boarding, but that his position is, "These are enemy combatants who should be tried in military tribunals at Gitmo, not in New York City."
He added terrorist suspects should not have Miranda rights -- to be advised of their right to an attorney and to remain silent.
"Enemy combatants should never be given rights of U.S. citizens," McCain said.
Funny, he doesn’t say Americans have nothing to fear from JD Hayworth and what a fine senator he’d be.
Sorry McCain, but you as a George Bush back stabbing RINO need to go out to pasture. Go JD.
LOL!
Well, this Tea Party member will be supporting JD!!
Down with McStain!!
Just vote him OUT!!
hell no! Retire now you selfish old man. You just stick around for your own ego’s sake. This is NOT public service, but service to McCain and McCain ONLY. Take your nasty little daughter and her nasty liberal mouth with you.
Over confidence is our friend.

"[Conservatives are] going to destroy the f*cking [Republican] party...
Why would I want to be the leader of a party of such a**holes?"

"I think the Democratic Party is a fine party, and I have
no problems with it, in their views and their philosophy."
U.S. SEN. JOHN MCCAIN, 02 APR. 2004
"I have to tell you, [Obama] is a decent person, a person that you
do not have to be scared [of] as president of the United States."
U.S. SEN. JOHN MCCAIN, 10 OCT. 2008
Good point. Time to take him OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can think of no greater mission this year! Go JD!!!
Hopefully JD will show him the door out.
“I’ll be chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee when Republicans regain the majority”
Meaning: “I’ll be able to continue to siphon money from the American people and spend it on idiotic defense contracts that Generals and Admirals keep saying they don’t NEED”
JD’s main campaign theme should be anti illegal immigration and show how McAmnesty is pro amnesty. JD will win hands down in a state heavily burdened by illegal immigration.

“McCain said it (the tea party movement) wants less taxes.”
But McCain likes the idea of a national sales tax. Maybe even a value added tax. Or both.
Of course a NST or VAT is held out as supplanting other taxes, but once they’re in effect they’re just more straws on our backs.

Johnny, the sooner you leave the longer you'll probably keep sucking in air ... do us all a favor.
Interesting to see where each of these two’s money come from.
In or out of state?
