I’ve been to various parts of Texas and in some cases have visited places (San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, etc.) a few times but never made it to Austin. Isn’t that considered a very liberal community?

Yes that is where most of the liberals in the state live. You can get your handouts quicker that way, just look at Washington DC, eat up with liberals but your closer to the man doling out the free dollars...
