George Will: Sarah Palin and the mutual loathing society
The Washington Post ^ | February 18, 2010 | George F. Will

Posted on 02/17/2010 8:27:21 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

The Republican presidential nominee, an Arizona senator, was a maverick, which was part of his charm. He spoke and acted impulsively, which was part of his problem. Voters thought his entertaining dimensions might be incompatible with presidential responsibilities. For example, he selected a running mate most Americans had never heard of and who had negligible experience pertinent to the presidency. This was 1964.

Barry Goldwater, whose seat John McCain occupies, chose to run with Bill Miller, a congressman from Lockport, N.Y., near Buffalo. Miller, Goldwater cheerfully explained, annoyed Lyndon Johnson. After the Goldwater-Miller ticket lost 44 states, Miller retired to Lockport, where he practiced law and lived in dignified anonymity until his death in 1983. Although he had served as an assistant prosecutor of Nazi war criminals at Nuremberg and spent seven terms in Congress, no one suggested he should be considered for the 1968 Republican presidential nomination.

Yet Sarah Palin, who with 17 months remaining in her single term as Alaska's governor quit the only serious office she has ever held, is obsessively discussed as a possible candidate in 2012. Why? She is not going to be president and will not be the Republican nominee unless the party wants to lose at least 44 states.

Conservatives, who rightly respect markets as generally reliable gauges of consumer preferences, should notice that the political market is speaking clearly: The more attention Palin receives, the fewer Americans consider her presidential timber. The latest Post-ABC News poll shows that 71 percent of Americans -- including 52 percent of Republicans -- think she is not qualified to be president.(continued)

Here’s why Palin would be an excellent President.. .it something these effete Beltway snobs can never understand because their archetype for the Presidency is more of a King - Messiah - Santa Claus hybrid then the true archetype that the founders envisioned, i.e. CHIEF EXECUTIVE.

Sarah Palin would make an excellent Chief Executive. She’s smart, is organized, has lots of energy, popular, has charm out the wazoo, is upbeat and positive. . .the camera loves her. . .and she has internal content, character and depth. . .she has the values that are directly linked to America’s founding documents. .she bleeds the American Creed and would bring on board those of a similar vein. In this respect, she would be very Reaganesque. A team builder and not afraid of a fight. . you betcha. That bow-tie ninny at ABC doesn’t know a damn thing about what he’s talkin about.

Yes, that’s all that has to happen, and she’s got it within her to do it.

“SHE ONLY HAS TO CONVINCE A MAJORITY OF VOTERS THAT SHE CAN DO A BETTER JOB THAN OBAMA.”

Melodramatics aside. We should know whether Palin is running in 2012, about a year from now.

As I said, if she does not run, its gonna be a basic replay of 2008 all over again. For this conservative, a clone candidate in the mold of RudyMcRombee just won't be good enough a second time around.

I wish you’d listen to me. We need to be smart. If Sarah can win, push it. If her negs are too high, which they probably are, we can still push it. Somewhat. Republicans need to win in 2012 and being a bot for any one candidate won’t help.

We’ll find out more about the poll tomorrow once it’s released. But the point PPP was making (by the way PPP is a Democratic pollster)that Palin was not in such bad shape as the WAPO poll made her out to be. And in a head-to-head matchup 22% of folks who are still skeptical of Palin would cast a vote for her against Obama. Perhaps it says more of Obama’s inadequacies than Palin’s qualifications but it is what it is!

The problem is that when ever the media turns on a Repulican candidate everyone scatters like cockroaches.

They are SO afraid - even these columnists. It certainly will not be business as usual. DC will be turned around so fast - a government that works for us. The insiders do NOT want a party crasher - and that’s what Palin will be. They KNOW it.

Not always, Scott Brown just won. There are winnable candidates out there. They usually are lighter on the more lib reps though.

I know of another Governor who wanted to quit, tried to quit, would have quit, 18 months into his first term.

Ronald Reagan.

Had he been able to beat Nixon for the 1968 GOP nomination he would waved good bye to California and hit the campaign trail.

Hey, come on, George Will is their so-called Republican representative of the middle (okay, middle left). If they did not have him on their morning shows, it would be so far left that they might only get MSNBC’s viewership numbers.

I would actually love for them to get a Conservative on any of the network shows - just to get some interaction between the leftists that they so promote. It would of course improve their ratings so much that it would scare them, so they would have to fire them immediately...heh.

She doesn’t have to use Harvard language or submit a treatise on George Soros to be able to define him and expose Obama’s links to him. The same goes for Obama’s Marxism and Marxist policies and czars. She wanted to go after him in ‘08. Just think what she’ll do in 2012!!!

Sarah is plain spoken and although she is derided for it, a lot of people are appreciative. Lofty words and soaring rhetoric have grown tiresome.

One thing’s for sure. She won’t run if her polling tells her that she doesn’t have a decent chance of winning. Considering everything she’s been through, she’s not about to put herself in the position of sacrificial lamb. Our lady Sarah is too smart and too tough for that role.

But if she runs............

“SHE ONLY HAS TO CONVINCE A MAJORITY OF VOTERS THAT SHE CAN DO A BETTER JOB THAN OBAMA.”

I agree. That's one reason why they are hitting hard on Sarah and the TeaParty - they see how the country is reacting positive to them both and 'we the people' in control - they don't like that! Scott Brown's win made their heads spin.

The media hates Sarah Palin. The polls are tampered with to make her look bad. People who loved Ronald Reagan also love Sarah.

It would be smart to not let the media decide who the Republican Presidential candidate will be.

If it is not Sarah Palin, the media wins again. They gave $800 million of free propaganda to Zero. Ronald Reagan could not have won and his poll numbers would be where Sarah’s are today if they did to Reagan what they are doing to her. Remember how McCain’s numbers were so good until he was running against Zero! The media manipulated the election and the polls.

We would be wise to take back the media by going around them and not letting them dictate our nominee.

We could strike a blow to them once and for all by doing all we can to get Sarah elected!!

The biggest reason they hate Sarah are her Pro Life Stand and her Christian faith which she doesn’t hide.
