Politics: The faster history moves, the more rapidly time-tested principles assert themselves. A year ago America seemed headed toward democratic socialism. Now George Washington's spirit rises to cry "Halt!"
On Wednesday, on the bank of the wide Potomac, on a parcel that once was part of the indispensable Founder's estate, a group of conservative thinkers and activists unveiled a concise summation of principles: "The Mount Vernon Statement." http://www.themountvernonstatement.com/)
Some of these conservatives former Atty. Gen. Ed Meese and Heritage Foundation President Ed Feulner among them for months had been cobbling the document out of the public eye. Through those months they were, as Edmund Burke described himself during the French Revolution, "alarmed into reflection."
What alarmed them and so many other hard-pressed, taxpaying Americans was the dismal trajectory the Obama administration and left-leaning congressional leaders had set for the nation. The ruling elite had shackled these Americans and their posterity to impossible debt levels and ever more regulation of their daily lives.
As the conservative drafters met, another narrative was building. Town Hall meetings to protest a planned government takeover of life-and-death decisions sprouted. A Tea Party movement launched and threatened the composition not only of Congress but of statehouses across the land.
Our founding principles, reads the Mount Vernon statement, are "presently under sustained attack. In recent decades, America's principles have been undermined and redefined in our culture, our universities and our politics. The self-evident truths of 1776 have been supplanted by the notion that no such truths exist. The federal government today ignores the limits of the Constitution, which is increasingly dismissed as obsolete and irrelevant."

We absolutely must put together a coalition that cuts across the three main corners of conservatism with enough wiggle room for all who proudly lean right. It won’t be easy but it must be done. And I believe Sarah Palin is the right person to do it.
Never forget that politicians from BOTH parties created the mess we find ourselves “alarmed into reflection” over.
The founding fathers were men of grave seriousness to defeat tyrants’ domination over the human spirit, and to guide mankind, the empathetic and the stoic, to freedom to pursue happiness. Uncontrolled debt to be paid by the public robs our posterity from freedom! Liars and crooks have made a profession in DC and it’s high time the pitchfork “taxpaying” peasants put them out in the cold no matter the party affiliation.
