Are you referring to the quote attributed to Admiral Yamamoto regarding his successful attack on Pearl Harbor?

I believe that quote was "I fear we have awakened a sleeping giant."

There is some disagreement as to whether Yamamoto actually spoke these words, however.

Yes. That is the (?) I was refering to.

I believe he could have said it. he was very much anti-war (with US) until forced to launch the attacks. He had been to the US and England. He did not fear our existing Army or Navy, but our industrial ability to REPLACE war materiel when needed.
