"But governing as liberals meant Democrats undermined the trust voters placed in them. They also enacted policies that increased economic uncertainty and retarded job creation. "When liberalism fails, people notice. They may even protest," Reagan told his aides, pointing to California's nascent Proposition 13 tax revolt—the "Tea Party" of its day. "And it's then they'll listen to you again if you have a clear set of ideas based on sound principle."

Let us hope that history repeats itself.

I think most of the analysis of this is giving Bayh a lot of credit for “knowing something” that hardly anyone else knows — and there is no evidence that he knows anything at all much less something no one else does. See what I’m sayin’?

Besides the 13 million, and from some of his remarks, he wants to run for the big office. I also think he doesn’t want to be part of the losing team.

To make a long story short, the socialists are sneaky, secret, lying cheats until they achieve Congress and President. Then their true colors are manifest for all to see.

They go down in flames and start to fake it all over again.

Bayh left angry - he announced his retirement without allowing his party to be able to have a viable primary contest for his replacement and didn’t warn any of the ‘rat leaders of his intentions - he was probably frustrated and resentful about some of the votes he’d been forced into making - such as for healthcare and the “stimulus” - in support of his party......

The biggest fallacy is that everyone labels Bayh a moderate. All you have to do is look up this stone cold liberals voting record.

Kinda like running from Leatherface and his chainsaw. Wise move.

Others (like Boxer) will just stand there and get chopped up in November.

"Every 14 or 16 years we seem to have to relearn this lesson"...

So, Bayh hadn't learned the lesson when he voted against Roberts and Alioto, and for Porkulus and Obamacare, but he just learned it now?

What is the point of linking to an article that requires a subscription to read??? How are we supposed to comment on an article that the vast majority of us can’t read?

It’s like Rush has always said - - just let Democrats be Democrats, and the people will notice and the people will get rid of them like flushing turds down the toilet. I’m paraphrasing.

Have you seen the new Sherlock Holmes movie? All these Democrats who are retiring remind me of the scene where a group of British parliament members have to pledge their allegiance to their evil leader, Lord Blackwood. Those that refuse are to be killed, right along with all the other members of Parliament, thus giving complete control to Blackwood. Could Obama be requiring some type of personal loyalty from the Dems, and those who refuse are encouraged to retire/resign?

After Jimmy Carter won the White House, Ronald Reagan assembled a group of his former aides in Los Angeles in early 1977 for a pep talk about how the GOP loss would only be temporary if they learned from the party's mistakes and returned to first principles.

What is really important about this is the fact that Ronald Reagan won because he believed that our founding principles - life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness were paramount.

Life being the right to life for every person.

Liberty being the ability to live your life unshackled by governmental burden.

And, the most misunderstood one of them all, the ability to pursue happiness defined by our Founders as the pursuit of a virtuous life which produces happiness.

Ronald Reagan understood this unique American dynamic very well. He knew that America stands the tallest and the strongest on two strong legs. One leg that supports the dignity of life, and the other leg which supports an economic system which allows for us to live an unshackled life.

So, for all the ninnies out in the hinterlands who think that you don't need the social conservatives YOU ARE DEAD WRONG.

Ronald Reagan won two landslides because he stood strong on two legs supported by the people and the Constitution.

I’ve never in my life seen such a political environment. The Democrats are really underestimating how very bad they could lose. There are several factors that make this election something we’ve never seen before. It combines several things we have seen with a new dynamic.

1. We have single party control of all branches of government. We have a President and a Congress that have government further to the left than ever before. They make Jimmy Carter look like small potatoes. They are governing as open liberals and haven’t even tried to be moderate.

2. We have an economy and a job situation which is either flat or worsening.

3. We have skyrocketing and debt.

4. We have a Tea Party movement which is aligned with conservatives, independents, and libertarians. It is a true grassroots movement that is helping to turn independents into true conservatives. We are seeing more people identifying as conservative which is the most popular political label I think largely because of the Tea Party Movement.

5. The economic collapse highlighted how totally wrong big government solutions and good intentions are. Most citizens do not want new bigger government. They see it as a failure. The President and Congress has positioned themselves between their base an everyone else. They in turn have disappointed their base and in their attempt to please them fueled an anger in the citizenry that we have never seen before.
