The commentator who announced Bayh’s retirement on Fox News said that Bayh had been a possible running mate with Obama in 2008 and if Obama doesn’t see re-election, Bayh wanted to be free from any office to better be able to run for President in 2012.

"Bayh wanted to be free from any office to better be able to run for President in 2012."
That might be what he wants people to think, but he'd be in a stronger position to challenge Obama after having won a re-election in a red state during a bloodbath year for Dems. He may want to challenge Obambi, but he wants to do it without a blemish on his record. He's afraid he's going to get a blemish on his record.

BO is going to have some stiff competition in 2012.
