Defending your constitutional rights has always involved some risk. It appears that you are far more at risk from the police than from criminals when you carry openly. I have carried openly (and concealed as well) for many years. I have been stopped by police a few times, but never has anyone tried to rob me.

The vast majority of criminals see someone with a gun, and don’t want any part of them. Very few police officers (who carry openly) are robbed.

East Palo Alto Police Det. Rod Tuason lives in a world where people imagine a gun carried openly is not loaded.

He should always assume those guns are loaded.

If he ever visits Virginia he best be on his toes ~ those guns actually ARE loaded!

Indeed. I have a friend who has a cabin in Washington, Ca where bear and sometimes cats frequent his property, consequently he Carry's a 38 in his back pocket, better something than nothing.

He drives up the hill to the grocery store in Grass Valley and does his shopping with the gun in his back pocket, absent minded, forgetting it was there. (I know, not the brightest thing) Some one sees the handle popping out of the top of his pocket and alerts the store manager....to make a long story short, he is now facing carrying a loaded weapon in an unauthorized area, a misdemeanor but still ridiculous.
