At the time, he didnt know if any of the band would be with him on the CenturyTel stage, where he planned to do just a few respectful songs before the show by headliner Martina McBride, then gather his band and go home.
The crash was horrific, he learned when he rushed to the accident scene to console his band..
The one hurt the worst was my bass player, Greg Baker. He was in the jump seat up front. He went through the windshield and was hanging over the front of the bus. Amazingly, he was not believed to have broken any bones, suffering a dislocated shoulder, rotater cuff injury and cuts and bruises. Hes all banged up.
Adkins said his steel-guitar player, Wayne Addleman, was just coming up front and he hit the divider in the middle of the bus. He cut his ear pretty bad and hes bruised on one whole side of his body.
RIP.
We were at the concert in Bossier City, La. Trace and his band played three very solemn songs and dedicated the last one to the families of those men, packed up and went home to Nashville.
His band members could barely walk. It was surreal. You couldn't help but feel sorry for them.
