I wonder to what extent school lunch programs encourage parents to think that feeding their children is not their responsibility, and also how many of the children and parents are legally in the U.S.

Gee, WWPD? (What would Plato do?)
Maybe we ought to put them in school full time, 24/7, to make sure they’re fed and watered properly.
Can’t trust their sires and dams with the nation’s tender lambs.

So the trucks can get there to deliver food, but the bus can’t get there to deliver children? The parents can get there to pick up free food, but they can’t get their offspring there?

“Some also get breakfast, dinner and bags of staple foods to take home for the weekend”

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Geez Loweeze! That’s new to me. Perhaps true education reform should be to issue school vouchers to all who want them and reducing the publik skools to state-run soup kitchens for kiddies.

The school system should NOT be a government feeding center.

We have taken in the poor of world. Some arrive legally. Many have come illegally and had anchor babies. My bet is many of these starving scholars are immigrants or anchor babies. There is no more housing boom. The economy is dead in the water

Plus it was always a lie that we must allow in these 3rd worlders because they would pay for our social security. Actually it’s the reverse. I’m paying for their SS and their kids SS and/or welfare or free food or food stamps or WIC or subsidized housing or transfer payments

Who feeds them in the summer when school is out or when they are on extended breaks?

When did it become the responsibility of the school system to feed children? In my county, they not only have a lunch program, but they started a breakfast program several years ago in which children get breakfast in their classrooms under the supervision of their teachers. I wrote to the state Sec'y of Education objecting to this and got a self-serving missive back about how great the program was working.

What the hell?

We had free lunch for low income families when I was in school but now we’re sending food home with them?

What’s next, just boarding them at school so the poor suffering parents can get some relief and the indoctrination can continue 24 hours a day?

Exactly
and if things are as dire as presentd then take the kids away , put them in group homes and stop WIC food stamps and welfare payments to the parents.
The money saved from not sending the parents bennies could provide a good atmosphere for the kids with all the food th4ey need.
Good LORD, we give them breakfast lunch dinner snacks AND basic food stuffs.
who are these people?

My daughter has always been in private school. The cost is significant and I still pay school taxes. But I don't really care. You get what you pay for. School food is not an issue.

If someone is so “poor” or stupid they can’t feed their kids twice a day the kid should be in foster care.

I’ve heard for months a commercial on the radio that supposedly 60% of kids are “in danger of going hungry over the weekend” so the group sends food home.

Frankly I think that’s a lie, and this story is as well.
