Saying transit agencies need financial help, legislative Democrats announced a budget plan Friday that digs up extra cash for bus and rail in California while boosting the state general fund.
The proposal, to be heard at the Senate budget committee Tuesday, would allow local governments to establish a fee at the gas pump possibly a fraction of a penny or a few pennies per gallon.
Metropolitan areas could spend that money on transit to help comply with state greenhouse gas reduction requirements.
Democrats said they have not decided whether local governments could impose the fee on their own, or whether it should be put to a public vote first. Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, said he'd like to let local leaders make that call for themselves, but "the probable political reality may not allow for that outcome."
The proposal is a response to bus agency desires for new local revenues that can't be swept away during state budget crises.

"Metropolitan areas could spend that money on transit to help comply with state greenhouse gas reduction requirements." More global warming baloney used as an excuse to plunder the incomes of the citizen. I bet it's only a matter of time before the Global Warming hoax is used to justify forced euthanasia because "useless" sick elderly people are spewing too much carbon dioxide in the air.

Suck the state dry with public programs and then expect them to give you your local Independence when push comes to shove?
Dream on...
Cut spending, it's sooo simple to understand.

when they can’t raise taxes they raise fees. When they can’t do that they will come up with a new scheme to raid the citizens wallet to fund their greed and stupidity

And the funny thing is that the Dems think if they suck out just a little capital here and a little capital there, in a way that really isn't visible to the naked eye, that it's OK.
This is like being on a road trip with just enough gas to get you and your dumb blonde girlfriend to the next town...and your girlfriend makes a plaintiff bid to take the scenic route. After all, it's a really beautiful drive and only an extra ten miles.
And after your engine sputters to a stop, and your soon to be ex-GF has to sit in the car alone for a few hours while you walk not 10 but 20 miles (round trip) with gas can in hand...guess who she's gonna be p!ssed at?

Recent news reports that some bus drivers are earning over $100,000 a year.
Maybe the state should re-evaluate what they pay public employees rather than trying to find more things to tax

Liberals amaze me...they want to ban cigarettes, so they put exhorbitant taxes and fees on them, which drives many people to quit smoking, and THEN, AND THEN....the libs come up with some new entitlement program that depends solely on tobacco revenue. When too many people quit smoking, they never cancel the entitlement program, they just pass some law for the general fund to supplement it.
Now they are trying to ban the internal engine, and they keep adding more and more feeds to gasoline to support some crazy scheme.
That's why california liberals don't become builders...they don't know what building a firm FOUNDATION means.

Do people actually ride busses in California? I see completely empty busses shuffling around Cleveland and adjoining suburbs every day, burning natural gas and wage money for no reason whatsoever.
