Subtitle: DHS Is Monitoring Social Media and Web Sites for Terror and Disaster Info
As the winter Olympics begin, the Department of Homeland Security has disclosed that it will be monitoring the comments and posts on websites and social media like Twitter for information on possible terror threats. Among the sites listed in a privacy impact statement filed Friday afternoon by DHS are the Drudge Report, the Huffington Post, Twitter, Google and this web site, the Blotter. The National Operations Center of DHS will watch the web for information, according to the statement, to "provide situational awareness" in the event of natural disaster, an "act of terrorism, or other manmade disaster."
"The Olympics are a potential target for such events," said the statement. The statement did not list all web sites and social media that the NOC will monitor, but provided 31 examples, many of them, like the Blotter, sites that cover breaking news, security, or terror.

Twitter has a Breaking News section that gets stories really fast, faster than Drudge and *gasp* FR sometimes!
It’s free. 95% of the time it’s frivolous. Most of the time it’s fun. Right now I’m cracking up over a fight Breitbart is having daily with boneheaded liberals. :-)
Like they haven’t been monitoring FR for years.
The government already monitors all phone calls & emails - did they think this would surprise us?
LOL - what is an “eligibility post”?
Who knows? Looks to me as if they have moved beyond the time of doing this secretively, doesn’t it?
It appears to be out in the open for all to see and understand.
“everything that is hidden will be made known”....
We are living in those times....when this his happening.
Wow - now that’s neat.
Yes - what is a VOX call?
But how do you tweet AND do FR ???? Only so much time in the day...
If anybody cars to give a step by step instruction on how to tweet - I would appreciate it not that I will Tweet but maybe so - who knows?
That should be: If anybody CARES not CARS....LOL... spellcheck 101 has still not been mastered here.
“The Drudge Report”. That’s the assignment I would want. Obviously FR is not a threat since it’s not on the list.
I’ll bet terrorists are going to put metal poles near the luge runs.
This is shaping up to be the perfect opportunity to play with the JBTs again. :-)
When you sign up for Twitter, you can ‘follow’ other peoples’ ‘tweets’ (short messages, almost like texting language sometimes). Their messages show up on your home page, pretty easy.
I have toddler twins who keep me busy, but every little bit I pop in and check on Drudge, FR, Facebook (similar to Twitter, except you can post pics, videos, etc. which you can do on Twitter, but it goes to another site) and Twitter, only takes a minute or two unless I click on an interesting link/story.
Ok, will look into it. So you just go to twitter.com?
But how do you know whose “tweets” you want to follow????
That’s true.
Oh, there was a discussion about puters going goofy or freezing up when posting on eligibility threads. Hardly a day goes by that whenever I’m on a thread about NBC or such that mine freezes. Coincidence? I dunno, but I’ve dubbed the man in the black suit behind the freezes Eligibility Ed.

Oh - LOL - that’s all I do - no texting for moi...LOL.
