Have your cell phone ready to call police if you're walking alone." Oh yeah - that's gonna help if you get attacked.

Maybe the city could get some stimulus $$$$ to build and run a gun range and provide free instruction?

Just for once, I’d like to see a headline read “Citizens advise police against arming themselves”.
To: Califreak
"The Constitution allows citizens who are not otherwise prohibited from having a gun to have a firearm in their home," Vallejo Police Department Support Services Manager Bill Powell said. "But we don't want any kind of tragedy to occur because someone got a gun and they're not familiar with it." WRONG you arrogant self important liberal from the pit of hell. You are a liar. It is NOT Limited to your home. You have a right to be secure in your person which means ANYWHERE....That we prohibit firearms in the hands of LAW-ABIDING citizens not guilty of any crimes is your disgusting tyrannical view of our freedom. To suggest that you and your fellow police officers are magically the only ones able to handle themselves with a gun is abhorrent. You should be ashamed of such a statement, retract it publicly and stand up and SUPPORT THE CITIZENRY instead of actively working against it.
Here liar...do this math for me....rapist/murderer/all-around-bad-guy in the house...Pistol or telephone?

How long do we have to wait for McDonald vs. Chicago?
And then how much longer after that for the decision to penetrate the thick skulls of the CA government?
To: Califreak
Fearful Vallejo residents thinking about arming themselves after a rash of violent crime may be jumping the gun, police said. They're not jumping the gun. It's the police who have failed in their duty, and moreover, have jumped the shark.

Huh...people may be moving out by that time. And Vallejo turns into another South Gate or Huntington Park.

Wow...I had to search to determine if this article was talking about the US or Mexico. This fellow is blind to the problems - not only those that effect citizens within his area of control, but really confuses home protection with gun ownership. He is the one that needs some education! With this kind of police protection, heaven help up...

I have a concealed weapons permit in Oregon. My instructor said you should fire 3,000 rounds to reach the top of a learning curve allowing you to draw, rack the weapon if its a semi-auto, aim and fire accurately from 21 feet. That means about 6,000 dry fires also. So get a lot of ammo and some good training, because you dont want Bubba and his ACLU lawyer to present their side of the event.

"We're suggesting people be more cautious about when they go out -- and this is not specific to Vallejo, but everywhere," Tenorio said. "Be aware of your surroundings, follow your gut feelings. If your gut feeling says to leave someplace, then leave. In other words, forget about freedom, stay home behind locked doors. Everyone knows cops are against gun ownership because they fear the gun being used on them. They will violate our rights and put our lives in danger to keep themselves "safe".
