Obama to force through extremist nominees
Conservative Examiner ^ | 2-11-10 | Robert Moon

Frustrated with such pesky nuisances as the Constitution, Obama now says he intends to circumvent the entire Senate confirmation process to railroad through 177 radical left-wing nominees--many of whom are opposed by both parties--while Congress is still in recess...

This is likely because of Richard Shelby (R-AL) placing a blanket hold on over 70 of Obama’s nominations. He decided to hold the nominations “hostage” until he received earmarks he requested for his state.

I wonder why he thought that would result in anything but this happening?

While most Presidents use recess appointments, two things are unique here.

First, 177, if true, is an extremely large number. Truly abusing the system. OTOH, I am sure several of these will deeply embarrass the President when their Communist or Socialist pasts are exposed. Saturday night Van Jones resignations are no doubt coming.

Second, and more ironic, is that it is most often used when the other party controls the Senate. That this President who has 59 votes in the Senate and still needs to resort to this tactic should be telling of how weak he has become. The large number is probably just to disguise that this is all about SEIU and the stymied appointment of Becker.

Congress used to be gone for months on end. Until the 20th amendment was ratified in 1933, Congressional terms would begin on March 4 of an odd-numbered year, but Congress would not actually assemble until the following December, unless called into special session. The Presidential power to fill vacancies was meant for those long intervals.

In fact, the wording of Art. II, Sec. 2, is "The President shall have Power to fill up all Vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate..." Obama is not talking about vacancies that happened since the Senate went on recess, but positions that have been unfilled for months. If the President can do this, why bother giving the Senate the power to confirm appointments?

The Shelby hold was removed a few days ago for all except a few nominees. The hold only latest a few days.

Can the GOP not object to recessing the Senate, and keep someone on the floor 24/7 to maintain that objection to keep BHO from appointing anyone??

Remember this radical garbage and when we kick King Obama out use the same method and fire them all. Change is coming and the list is growing for expulsion and treason.

Recess appointments expire at the end of a Congress like John Bolton.

Or does it only require a simple majority to recess?

Did we expect anything else? The narcissist in chief will continue to do whatever he can to promote his agenda.....Barry has no conscience or loyalties or accountability.....he truly believes he is the solution. Obama worships himself.

Or odumbos nominees are such extremists that they would never get a positive vote.

If that is the case, why is it that Republican presidents have also used recess appointments at times when it was not necessary?

Indeed, I’m sure it won’t take long after they’re appointed that we find out that a bunch of them are kooks. It’s pretty much a given.

And how objectionable the nominees are.

How about we aim for a REAL Senate majority leader in 2012. McConnell is not the man for the job. In fact, most of the republican leadership over the last dozen years comes under the category of miserable failure.

No problems with this. If the Democrats want to pay the political price for this in November then I'm all for it.

Besides, since the very definition of "Democrat" is "one who accomplishes nothing (aka n'er-do-well)" I guess one commie is as good as the next.

Once certainly doesn't hear about those ridiculous 49-or-so "czars" accomplishing anything.

Yes, Republican Presidents have abused this power as well.

I think the 10-day time limit for a President to sign or veto a bill also gets ignroed..."what's the Constitution between friends?"

Yes, but. They are only good until this fall when a new Congress is elected and is seated. Then they have to be re-submitted.

Also he cannot do successive recess appointments of the same person.
