ST. JOHN'S -- Premier Danny Williams, who had heart surgery at a U.S. hospital last week, is recovering very well from the operation, a spokeswoman said Monday.
Elizabeth Matthews said the Newfoundland and Labrador premier was released from intensive care on Friday and is expected to be discharged from hospital sometime this week.
"Doctors are very pleased with his progress," said Matthews, the premier's director of communications.
"If all goes as planned and barring any unforeseen complication the premier will be back in March," she said in an email.
Mr. Williams' decision to have the surgery performed at an undisclosed U.S. hospital, because the procedure wasn't available in his home province, touched off a mini-firestorm, with some critics in Canada and the United States pointing to it as proof of problems in Canada's health-care system.
However, Matthews said, her office has received an "outpouring of support from across the country for the premier - hundreds and hundreds of well wishers via phone calls, emails, etc."
Last week, deputy premier Kathy Dunderdale said the criticism of Mr. Williams was unwarranted and an invasion of his privacy. She said the premier would address the issue after his return home.
Were not sure where that part of the title came from , its a blatant fabrication , other wise known as BS.
(FReeper rule #238 - actually READ the post prior to commenting.) The 5th paragraph states:

I’d love to hear the answer. Please ask who she thinks she would have to get permission from.
LOLOL!
because the procedure wasn't available in his home province,

Newfoundland and Labrador is not Canada, any more than California is the United States.
Oh Nuts. The secret is out.
I give up. lol I just give up.
I would too. She only calls about twice a year.
I didn’t mean to spill the beans.
;-)
;-)
That’s probably enough.
Enough gas around here I'd think someone ate them :)
Goodnight
Why did he go to America for treatment? Well, let’s see:
He’s the leader of a province that covers 405,720 square kilometers (157 035.47 square miles), that has a population of 505,469. The largest city in the province (St. John’s) has 100,646 people, or 19.91% of the whole population.
The state closest in size to Newfoundland and Labrador is California, at 163,696 sq mi. California is two Delawares larger in area, but has the equivalent population of ALL Canada.
Can you understand why it’s likely for such a sparsely populated place to have somewhat reduced medical amenities?
Wouldn’t be the situation if it wasn’t a socialized medical system. The fact remains he was able to afford and have access to the kind of care pretty much most of the inhabitants of his province don’t.
