Statements out of Washington and other Western capitals suggest a shift from engagement to confrontation with Iran over its nuclear programme.
"What we are going to be working on over the next several weeks is developing a significant regime of sanctions that will indicate to them how isolated they are from the international community as a whole," President Barack Obama told journalists earlier this week.
The president sounded not unlike his predecessor George W Bush, who worked for years to contain Iran, a sign that Mr Obama's policy to engage with the Islamic Republic has failed.
The question now is whether a new round of sanctions would be any more successful than those imposed under Mr Bush's watch.

Here's an awful thought, as if we didn't have enough: suppose this chatter about nukes, emp, missiles etc. was a cover for a different kind of attack right here at home? Bio, in various cities? (Hard to bring off AFAIK) Knocking out communications with civil disturbances, food/drink contaminations and on & on--all this simultaneous. Resulting chaos from these would be enough for the Diktator O to set Martial Law in place. Sure I'm locked & loaded so are my kids and the rest of us who have a grain of sense. But ....I'm going to shut up now. But why in all these years, have our leaders let this fester and grow? These 7thCentury devils should have been erased (as in HIT) years ago.
It makes my blood boil.
This could very well be that “punch” that nutjob was
runnin’ his mouth about,,,
Nothing at all to stop him from killing thousands of
his own people,,,
Just like China...:0/
Thank you both for your posts. I’m waitin’ and watchin’ with you. It’s hard to believe that there isn’t a live thread for this potentially world changing event, or threat. God be with the Iranian opposition.
I’ll second that!
I’ve pondered that “punch” and it just doesn’t make sense to me that a punch to the West would be Nutjob killing thousands of Iranians. I’m certainly not an expert, but that threat to the West seemed to me a lot more threatening and personal, if you will.
It’s kind of odd to me that there doesn’t seem to be much interest here. I guess I expected several hundred posts by now as we wait and watch what Iran is going to do.
Uh, Caribou, me thinks you forget that it’s only 9:00 here in Alaska, but it’s 1:00 a.m. on the east coast. heh heh

East part of Azadi square, people are chanting we are countless
I heard it. It was amazing. They are really yelling. There are a LOT of them yelling, not just a small crowd. Very hopeful.
