Statements out of Washington and other Western capitals suggest a shift from engagement to confrontation with Iran over its nuclear programme.
"What we are going to be working on over the next several weeks is developing a significant regime of sanctions that will indicate to them how isolated they are from the international community as a whole," President Barack Obama told journalists earlier this week.
The president sounded not unlike his predecessor George W Bush, who worked for years to contain Iran, a sign that Mr Obama's policy to engage with the Islamic Republic has failed.
The question now is whether a new round of sanctions would be any more successful than those imposed under Mr Bush's watch.

Wow, that's new, that's historic, that's...wait...been tried before, with limited success. Really obama? You think they don't already feel isolated, yet continue to calculate the potential payoff is worth it?
...obama's policy to engage with the Islamic Republic has failed.
Ding ding ding, we have a winner! No kidding obama's policy has failed. Why should his Iranian policy be any different than any other one? Every policy of obama's has failed, with the possible exception of his attempts to destroy America. Those are moving forward.
The question now is whether a new round of sanctions would be any more successful than those imposed under Mr Bush's watch.
That's former President Bush please. The answer to that question is undoubtedly a resounding no. The sanctions have only (probably) slowed Iran's progress. Since obama's naive policy has failed, he is falling back on a policy that has been demonstrated to be only marginally effective. With obama the inept, ill-prepared one running the show, it will no doubt be less effective...
Doesn’t matter much really, at this point. Tonight is the night.

It is now 7:46 am in Tehran.
They are saying there is a BIG VID fence around the square. Got any ideas what a VID fence is?
07:45 in Tehran. People already making their way towards Azadi monument
should we do a live thread or just stay here?
I found nothing about vid fence on Google, Yahoo, or Goodsearch. As for live thread or stay here I’m fine either way.
The result would certainly be war...but at least it would be on our terms and they would fire the first shot.
Yeah, we'd have to warn off a few Chinese, NK and Russian ships...but NO WAY would they challenge a US Navy at sea and ready to shoot. And yes, we may take a couple of hits from Iranian shore-based batteries but they could be fairly quickly suppressed.
It would be supremely important to notify Iran and any potential allies that if they fire on a US Capital ship...we would take it as an act of unlimited war.
THAT's what Reagan would do:)
should we do a live thread or just stay here?

That’s up to you,,,
As for that fence,,,
Mite be a heavy steel fence to keep people out of that area...
