I became interested in canning a little over a year ago. I love to cook, and I love to eat good food. Canning is so rewarding in many aspects. One, is the fact that you can make a huge stock pot of soup, chili, stew, or anything... and eat for months to come on your pantry supplies. I also love to share my food with friends. It makes me very happy to be able to cook something delicious and share it! When you can, the food is good for virtually a million years. Unlike freezing, where you are totally dependent on the freezer.

Thanks, Granny!
I do a lot of dehydrating. It’s a lot easier than canning and doesn’t require as much additional equipment.

When we had the kids home, I canned by the hundreds of jars. Now I’m more likely to do up lots of jams for gifts because I like to scrounge for berries in the summer. I do, however put up lots of soups and chili in the winter. Nothing like simmering a big crock pot all day to chase the February blahs.
