WASHINGTONJordan is in advanced talks with the Obama administration to conclude a civilian nuclear-cooperation agreement with the U.S., according to Jordanian and U.S. officials.
Successful completion of the negotiations would make Jordan the second Arab state in less than a year, following the United Arab Emirates, to secure nuclear assistance from Washington. Any pact would constitute an international treaty and need the approval of Congress.
The talks come as Iran is accelerating its production of nuclear fuel, raising the prospect of an expanding nuclear-arms race in the Middle East.
An accord with King Abdullah II's government in Amman would allow U.S. firms to transfer nuclear equipment, fuel and expertise to Jordan, which is one of only two Arab countries to have signed a peace agreement with Israel.
President Barack Obama has pledged to assist developing nations in pursuing civilian nuclear-power programs in exchange for guarantees they won't seek to produce atomic bombs.

Trust any Arab ?
I don’t think so.
Further nuclear proliferation in the Middle East.
You have not seen nothing yet, wait till Iran acquires/develops nuclear weapons.
Why not? They are the presidents brethren.
Also remember what he said, if the winds should start to blow in an ugly way he would stand with his muslim brothers....
We’re going to put a stop to this come November.
I’ve never seen so many people so angry.
Not only should we put a stop to this in November, we should make sure that those we elect do not put on kneepads when dealing with Muslims. Let’s face it folks, the crew we have in Congress today still think that Islam ia a ROP.
And by peace shall destroy many...

Oh Yeah...like we really need THAT!?!
It is written..
Big, huge, giant mistake. Thomas Friedman (yes, the guy from the NY Times) once correctly called the peace treaty with Jordan a “peace of the princes”. The media and the general public in Jordan is still terribly anti-Semitic and hates Israel. When the Hashemite monarchy falls (and it will, eventually, since Hashemites are a small minority of Jordanians) that peace treaty will fall with it and Jordan will turn anti-American and Islamist. Want to bet that peaceful nuclear technology gets turned into military technology even under King Abdullah?
True, but Jordan really can’t nuke Israel without killing off the bulk of it’s own populace.
The radioactive fallout would hit Jordan’s major population centers. Plus their main source of water, the Jordan River, would most likely be contaminated. So if the blast doesn’t get them, the radiation would... and if that failed, they’d die of thirst.

You’re welcome, SunkenCiv. This is important info.
You are assuming large nuclear device. Think smaller and there still is what to worry about.
You are also assuming that radical Islamists are rational.
