WASHINGTON (KMOX Radio) -- A warning earlier this week from Iran's supreme ruler that his country will deliver a "punch" February 11th that will "stun" the West is being taken seriously at the highest levels of the U-S government, according to Missouri's two Senators.
Democratic Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill described the concern about Iran today in Washington as a matter of "almost hyper focus."
"I know the military is monitoring it carefully. I know the intelligence community is monitoring it carefully. I can't share many of the details of that. But I will say that I think our government is very, very, very concerned."
Earlier this week, Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said in a speech that: "The Iranian nation, with its unity and God's grace, will punch the arrogance (Western Powers) on the 22nd of Bahman (February 11) in a way that will leave them stunned."

They have toilet paper.
Russias Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov was quoted earlier today as saying the Iran situation had “really become very serious”. I thought it was an odd comment, coming from the Russians.
Maybe related. Maybe not.
Washington is full of them....how many do they need? Can we start with Pelosi or Schumer?
What, you don't trust her??? (paraphrasing her quote from a summer townhall meeting)
“Those who know don’t talk, & those who talk, don’t know.”
Except that is for Democratic Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill. Anyone know if she serves on a defense or intelligence related committee?
Exactly. Ahmadinejehad I pretty much ignore, he's just a talking-head. But this seems like more than just bloated threats. The moves they seem to be making lately point to something more ominous. How big, or whether it will be "stunning", remains to be seen.
When I read your post and saw worm, I immediately thought of Wormwood.
More than 3% of the population has 5 or more teeth.
Seriously, I think you might be surprised how technologically advanced Iran is. It is WAY more advanced than Iraq was. A large portion of the country has cellular service as well as internet and satellite TV access, hence the ubiquity of Twitter during the protests last year.
Also, in the major metropolitan areas, they have a robust university system, that includes women as well. In some areas, Iran is more progressive than their Sunni/Oil Monarchy counterparts. There is tremendous poverty in the more rural areas, but the metropolitan areas are surprisingly cosmopolitan. Iran has research universities, whereas clearly Afghanistan, Sudan or most of the Northern African Muslim countries clearly do not.
My theory is a union with Iraq or part of Iraq, thus making our last 7 years a waste of time and money. That would be a punch. Anything nuclear would be more than a “punch”. I don’t think it is in China’s best interest to align with a theocratic dictatorship either. They have terrorism problems of their own.
Yep, using out intel resources to monitor the polar ice caps will really help on this one.
HOPEFULLY THEY WILL NUKE THEMSELVES................
President Obama is on the case!
Let's volunteer Pelosi for the RAT.
An EMP bomb is hard to build and deliver, but if they’ve got the triggers they needed, Iran could have built a nuclear bomb. All they have to do is trigger a decent size nuke in low orbit, and it would cause havoc. Of course, they’d have to make a big enough splash to totally cripple us, or they’d be signing a death warrant, so I doubt they’d hit the US. If they can take down Israel’s capabilities though, hit them fast and hard with help from enemies on the ground, they might try it.
Lori, I am with you!
WE were told endlessly that Obama was going to change the world and his nuanced self and smart korPs of people were going to bring us all into a Coke commercial sing along.
A Sock Puppet with no kick is all heel.
Keep on focusing on Palin, Obama-ites. You are failing.
In the interest of peace and fairness, I think Israel should share some of their nuclear weapons with Iran.
That's part of the "events" I mentioned earlier. My guess is that they will declare themselves a "nuclear state". I sure hope I am wrong.
Israel is so small geographically ... wouldn’t any large detonation in or over Israel effect all neighboring countries too?
