It has been nearly a year and a half since Sarah Palin became a household name in America and the world over. Despite the fact she was on the bottom half of a losing ticket and hasn't held public office in more than half a year three cable networks provided live coverage of her address to the Tea Party Convention last Saturday night in Nashville. Is there any other private American citizen who could command that sort of undivided attention?
The answer is nobody else could and liberals know it all too well.

During Reagan's lifetime he was at various times called an "amiable dunce," derided for describing ketchup as a vegetable (even though he never actually did), and chided for reading from cue cards. Yet it is worth remembering what former CNN anchor Bernard Shaw said in conversation with Wolf Blitzer and others following Reagan's funeral:
SHAW: Can I say something that touches on a very sensitive issue?
BLITZER: Of course.
SHAW: The news media and how we failed to thoroughly cover and communicate the very essences we're talking about possessed by Ronald Reagan. What I've been reading and what I've been hearing I did not get during his two terms in office, or did I miss something?
BLITZER: I think you're on to something, Bernie.
SHAW: I think we failed our viewers, listeners, and readers to an appreciable extent. I can't quantify it, but I'll put it there. Because I certainly missed a lot.
Now there are those amongst conservatives who scoff at the notion that Palin is a Reagan in the making. Yet when reading Shaw's poignant observations one cannot help but think that the liberal media are failing their viewers, listeners, and readers to a considerable extent with Palin....

This guy gets it. Nice piece.
Shades of . . . “I just don’t know HOW Nixon won. NOBODY I know voted for him.”
No doubt the media has let down their listeners regarding Sarah and a lot of other issues but the fear has a lot more to do with the people to which Palin appeals than to the woman herself. Those people and her potential followers are voters.
The big difference between then and now is that now...they don't care. Bernard Shaw was about as old school as you could get back then except for maybe Bob Scheiffer, Charles Kuralt and Tom Brokaw. At least they had a shred of integrity and/or conscience.
Now? Feh. A bunch of poofters and harpies.

Just WOW! Fine piece...
(((PING)))
.... "Sarah Heath Palin is more than merely a political figure. She represents a reassertion of the Straight and the Normal; the Crooked cannot view her without declaring total war. The war has been made obvious. What's less clear is whether the Bastion virtues she champions are capable of withstanding so determined an assault. For it's a common failure among the good and decent to assume that their opponents must be good and decent as well: perhaps misunderstood, and at worst misinformed or misguided. That allows the barbs of Crooked mouthpieces a channel through which to strike."
"But as Nietszche wrote, "That which does not kill us makes us stronger." As the Crooked descend to ever lower depths, their venalities reinforce our conceptions of and attachment to the Straight and the Normal. They cannot cow us; they must destroy us -- and as Americans recognize that, ever more flock to the banners of the Straight, resolved to battle the Crooked to victory or death."
A combination of growing up in the "wilds" of Alaska and parents who instilled in her a sense of individual independence and responsibility. Something almost unheard of these days in a society weaned on the tenets of "go along to get along" and crap like "It takes a village to....".
She's learning to better dodge or parry the "arrows" constantly fired at her from the left..in both parties. Now she is more likely to shove them right back up their collectivist butts.
In addition, it doesn't hurt to have a tough, independent, and blue-collar husband.
Finally, can you think of any current GOP politician that has similar characteristics? While some say that Sarah has some of Reagan's characteristics, I'd point out, speaking as a very senior citizen, that, with regard to her family and her political enemies, she reminds me of Harry Truman as well.
Agree about the Truman comparison. I’m a senior too. I loved Truman. Those of us who were living through that war cheered when those bombs were dropped. This generation has never really been affected by war. I think that is going to change.
All the best, mick.
