The s/wave was strong the P/wave on most seismographs around the area.

Normally you have a sharp shock wave(Pwave)followed by an intense and longer lasting rolling type tremor.

On most recorders that captured this quake it appears reversed.

Weird to me, not sure why it appears that way.

Another thread has a map showing the epicenter was closer to Algonquin.

Most of that farmland is still there, though subdivisions have encroached somewhat. From Rochelle, 18 miles West of DeKalb...

Sycamore & DeKalb are neighboring towns. They boarder each other, Sycamore on the NW of DeKalb. State rte 23 is the main link that connects them, named DeKalb Ave in Sycamore, Sycamore Rd in DeKalb.

That’s only about 35 miles away from me and I didn’t feel a thing. Nothing like the earthquake we had in 1987.

Has Danny Glover chimed in about potential causes for this earthquake yet?

Leni, I’m from Oak Park; 1142 S Grove Ave. Just a block North of Roosevelt Rd. Went to Christ School/Church as a kid until we moved to Wisconsin in ‘55.

(Route 23 is Sycampre Road in DeKalb and DeKalb Avenue in Sycamore.)

Well, I just posted that to LibertyRocks, so ya beat me to it :)

Welcome to DeKalb. I'm in Rochelle, about 18 miles straight West. In fact, it's the wife's birthday and we're going to Johnny's Char House in Sycamore tonight for dinner. Maybe I won't have to ask them to shake my martini... :)

Yeah, Virgil. That's just East of our favorite restaurant, Sorrento's Ranch. Mmmmmmm, that prime rib is fantastic.

They just downgraded the size to 3.8 instead of 4.3 on WLS radio.

We lived in CA for 19 years. If it’s close, it’s a jolt. If it’s further away, it’s a sway. I graduated high school in Illinois. We had an earthquake in the spring of 1968. I was in Bloomington for a high school Choir competition and the chandeliers in the auditorium swayed for a full minute. California was MUCH worse!

Lived and worked in Sycamore from 1971 until ‘86. Then the company moved us elsewhere for 4 years. We returned, but decided to live in Rochelle. Still there. Still have many acquaintances in Sycamore, going there tonight for dinner, my wife’s birthday.

The Wrath of Rod?

Felt it this morning as well, originally thought a snowplow drove through the front yard.
