Most of the ethnicities who have come as a bloc to America did so to improve their lot in life as you say. That presupposes they have some skill or ability or usefulness which they will employ to improve their lot in life and that of their descendants. Thus far, Haitians who have come here have been nothing but a burden, although I expect there are a few anecdotal exceptions. But as a group, Haitians are a useless burden on our society. Cubans are not. They’re productive, hard-working, and have the initiative, ambition and impetus to assimilate, progress and succeed in our society.

Cubans want to assimilate? I grew up in Hialeah in the early 60s and moved in the mid-80s to Broward County. I decided to move when I went to my bank and the teller started talking to me in Spanish. As for the Haitians, I worked with some in the late 70s. They were hard-working, nice guys. It takes a couple of generations for groups to move up. They will just like the Cubans and others did. Give them time and give them the opportunity.
