AFL-CIO Boss Calls for Recess Appointment
NRO ^ | 02/09/10 | Daniel Foster

Major Garrett tweets this response from AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka on the defeat of Craig Becker: "A Republican-led filibuster has put political interests over the needs of America’s working families," Trumka said. "We support President Obama’s expressed willingness to make recess appointments of critical posts in the federal government if that’s what it takes to get around minority delay and obstruction."

That is quite a shock that the AFL-CIO wants recess appointments (i.e. Card Check Becker). I wonder if Barry will do it?

What happens with recess appointments?

Do they automatically get accepted?

It seems like Jim Webb slept in the chamber or something like that in order to keep President Bush from making recess appointments.

Why not? Just another nail in Obama's coffin.

Any President can do a recess appointment and it cannot be stopped. The appointment expires at the end of the current Congressional session, which would be January 2011.

And I believe that the President must do it when Congress is adjourned.

That being said, I think a recess appointment would only fan the flames of anger among those who are fed up with the underhanded dealings in Washington.

“Do they automatically get accepted?”

I believe the appointed can serve without a vote until the end of the current Congressional Session (Jan 2011).

“Article II, Sec. 2, of the Constitution says, “The President shall have power to fill up all vacancies that may happen during the recess of the Senate, by granting Commissions which shall expire at the End of their next Session.””

He only got 52 votes. That means that the "delay and obstruction" was BIPARTISAN!

Actually it was SUPER Bipartisan because if 1 Repub votes yes in the house (e.g. health bill) the media calls it “Bipartisan”. So 2 votes on this from Dems is super!

And what is up with the 33 voting to end filibuster? Where are the other 15? Afraid to vote? Or snowed in?

For some reason, the Democrats have sometime in the last year altered their view of recess appointments.
