As to the homeownsership thing with fannie and freddie, he's on record as trying hard to regulate it (brought it up 11 different times), and was unfortunately defeated and demogogued by Barnie and Chuckie.
I also think you are short selling what happened when all that money was pulled out in those few hours that fall. It seems the economy was targeted by someone, and that rebounded to Obama's benefit. McCain was too bad a candidate and unable to wrap that around Bambi's neck as he should have.
I will agree with you about Bush and his Sept 11 response. Almost everyone but die-hard libs were glad he was president at the time.
On the housing bubble there is just too much out there put out by Bush administration that took credit for their involvement in risky home loans at the time, just one example was mailed to me here : Speaker Hastert Touts Law Closing the Homeownership Gap for Minorities (gets rid of downpayment requirements for those with bad credit) 2003 article
I would not be realistic if I didnt point out that Republicans were not blameless. Because they had the WH, they got all the blame for it leading to another disasterous 2008 election, as Democrats will get the blame this year and hopefully again in 2012.
