BBC Ex-USSR: Iran aiming to provoke regional military conflict - Russian exper 91) ☆ By enriching uranium to a higher grade, Iran is embarking on a deliberate course of provoking a military conflict in the Middle East due to its unstable domestic situation, Aleksey Arbatov, head of the International Security Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences' Institute of World Economy and International Relations, said in a live interview to Russian Defence Ministry-controlled Zvezda TV on 9 February. He also said that Tehran will suddenly announce it has developed a nuclear weapon, and noted that 20 per cent-grade uranium was sufficient to develop a primitive but functioning nuclear device. On 9 February Iran announced that it had started enriching uranium to

If they announce that they have a nuke, we can only guess and speculate that Israel would attack Iran anytime soon after wards.....

I’ll make a prediction folks:
February 11th will come and go, and the only thing we’re going to see or hear is the same big talking lies from the mouth of the little runt we’ve been dealing with for a while now, nothing is going to change, and the media will quote and regurgitate the regime’s propaganda as they always do.
But so much for 0bama, Ahmadinejad is the same asshat he’s always been and at the end of the week everyone will have forgotten about his latest babblings as well.

LOTS of freepers worried about the potential threat of an EMP on the second page of this thread.
Could you please share your views on the EMP debate?
Thank you.

I can’t find a direct link, but here’s a blog link:
http://www.wopular.com/iran-will-announce-nuke
However, it seems to link to this article here on FR as the originator of this story. And, as usual, google picks up this article at FR several times.

They will have to do more than announce it. They will have to test it, and they will have to do it such that the world can watch it being tested, and such that a satellite can verify it.

It’s very likely that they will “announce” their bomb.
I don’t think they will explode it: Just making an announcement is a fact (or a political drama) that they CAN control.
If they “announce” they are going to explode their bomb (before it explodes!), then they are going to set themselves up for a major failure and embarrassment. If they thought their bomb would really work, then they’d simply blow it up as a surprise.
But “announcing” a bomb is a publicity stunt that requires no proof. And gives them all the “glory.”
(Hmmmn. More likely, if they really “knew” it was going to blow up, they’d ship it FedEx to Jerusalem THEN blow it up unannounced. )

I heard Amb. John Bolton talking about Iran’s enrichment program.
He said getting the uranium to 20% was 75% of the battle.
Going to 80-90% was much easier than getting the first 20%.

I remember when we considered seeding the North Korean border with U235 "bricks" in order to prevent the Chinese from helping during the Korean War.
I think Barry Goldwater was one of the proponents of this. Non explosive but lethal if you got enough exposure. The fear factor was counted on to be a deterrent.
Israel could do something similar around Iran's nuke sites. "Glowing Ayatollahs" has a nice ring to it.
Of course there would have to be some way to render the U235 unusable/unrefinable or you might just be sowing trouble downstream. I doubt that is a realistic possibility.
Might work as a temporary way to force Iran to stop work while the Israeli's take care of business in other ways.
