The convention also featured former Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.), who said in his speech, "People who could not spell the word vote or say it in English put a committed socialist ideologue in the White House -- name is Barack Hussein Obama."
Leaving aside McCain's statements, I'm not sure I understand what Tancredo is talking about here - is he saying that illegal aliens are responsible for voting Obama into office or that the average Obama voter is uneducated? As much as I oppose Obama, I don't believe either is true - and I don't see how such statements help the GOP.

I agree with you.
Having only seen him quoted and not the context, but it seems over the top.

Since it is unPC to require people to prove that they are citizens when they register to vote, I’m certain both aliens and illegal aliens vote in our elections. In NJ I remember a politician bragging about voting when he wasn’t a citizen.

He was not talking about illegal aliens, although thanks to ACORN, Motor Voter they did vote. Rather it is about uneducated youth voting without knowing English or civics. The comment was ill delivered, but 100% correct.
