Appeals Court: Women Wrestlers Can Sue UC Davis
The Associated Press Feb. 8, 2010 SAN FRANCISCO -- An appeals court says it appears that the University of California, Davis violated federal law meant to promote gender equity in college athletics when it eliminated its women's wrestling program.
The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reinstated a lawsuit Monday filed by three female wrestlers. The women were told in 2000 that they'd have to compete against men, then were cut from the varsity team.
The plaintiffs accuse the university of violating Title IX, the federal law that requires schools to offer equal athletic opportunities to men and women.
In 2007, UC Davis settled a lawsuit for $725,000 by fired women's wrestling coach Michael Burch, who claimed the university had retaliated against him for supporting the women's lawsuit.

It will just be one more bill for the Californians to pick up.
$725,000 will sure buy a lot of Jell-O!
Perhaps the universities might want to start doing something useful with their monies - actually educating their students.
Sports are NOT education.
Neither are Education degrees , and other marshmallow majors with “Studies” in the title, etc. etc.
More nonsense from the 9th Circus!
And this is why sports programs for males are on the decline.
On the bright side, they won’t have to take out their bull noserings on a nightly basis.
UC Davis doesn’t have a mens team that does that balance beam thing that the womens team does. I think it’s because the grundle could get smashed pretty bad in a fall. Nevertheless, this is also blatent sexism. Sue the University for this, too.
The 9th Circuit didn't write Title IX, Congress did. Should the courts disregard laws passed by Congress?
Point taken - the 9th Circuit still sucks.
Gosh, I suuure do wonder why more women now go to Universities than men, you know?
Freshman year in the dorms they have these counseling sessions headed by the Resident Advisors —could be about the dangers of “binge drinking” or whatever.
I went to one about homophobia: we went around in a circle introducing ourselves, then saying “I am gay” —I think it was to break down inhibitions, or something...? Or maybe mind control.
So, for example, “Hi, my name is Mike, and I’M GAY”. And the next person, and so on, right around in a circle —and everyone who did this is (almost certainly) straigth.
I’m serious, err...series.
Does anyone really wonder why normal guys are PISSED OFF..?
