My guess...somehow involved with the Philmont Scout Ranch.

Pedro is the Mail Burro of legend sort of a Dear Abby for Boy’s Life Under the Hitchin Post. He’s been a constant since 1958.

Don Juan Pedro Ladino de Philmonte...or “Pedro” as he’s better known, is the mascot and mail-delivering burro of the Boy Scout publication “Boy’s Life”.

The Hitchin’ Post was my favorite part of “Boy’s Life” when I was a Scout.
