Makes me wonder if killing the US Space Program wasn’t another concession to China so they will keep funding the Obama deficits. One of my favorite books as a kid was “The Moon is a Harsh Mistress”. Gotta wonder what is going to happen with China sitting uncontested at the top of a huge gravity well.

Private sector is a very slow process - China, India, Russia et al will have long been on the Moon before anything above LEO becomes profitable enough to justify the risk and provide a healthly return.

We will be an Earth-bound nation busy printing trillion dollar notes so people can buy a loaf of bread when they get to the head of the line on alternate days - al la USSR.

With the demise of education, there will be no one to do the engineering in those private sector busineess.
