The Onondagas in CNY won’t let anyone who isn’t a certain percentage of native live on the reservation and any native who marries outside of the tribe isn’t allowed to live on the res.
It’s their land. They can set policies.
The only thing that irks me is this *sovereign nation* thing. They are not sovereign. They depend on the outside world for an awful lot of services and are not really independent. They may govern themselves in most ways, but are not really independent or self-sufficient.
Regarding the sovereign nation thing, I'd say they are more self-sufficient than the U.S. We rely on China for just about everything and I certainly don't feel independent living under Republicrat rule. But I do see your point, I'd expect them to be a bit more independent. At least the Oneida's had the moxie to open Turning Stone.
