WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama's top counterterrorism adviser said Sunday that lawmakers and others are using national security to score political points and defended the handling of the attempted Christmas Day bombing of a U.S. airliner. Deputy national security adviser John Brennan complained that politicians, many of them Republicans, were unfairly criticizing the administration for partisan purposes and second-guessing the case with a "500-mile screwdriver" that reaches from Washington to the scene of the abortive attack in Detroit. Brennan said he had personally briefed top GOP lawmakers on Christmas night about the arrest of accused bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab and that none of them raised objections.
"There's been quite a bit of an outcry after the fact, where again, I'm just very concerned on behalf of counterterrorism professionals throughout our government, that politicians continue to make this a political football and are using it for whatever political or partisan purposes," he said.
Among those he said he briefed were Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.; House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio; and the top Republicans on the congressional intelligence committees, Sen. Kit Bond of Missouri and Rep. Pete Hoekstra of Michigan...
Brennan said that Abdulmutallab was treated no differently than any other terror suspect arrested on U.S. soil and that the FBI and others involved in his arrest acted appropriately.
"I think those counterterrorism professionals deserve the support of our Congress," he said. "And rather than second-guessing what they are doing on the ground with a 500- mile screwdriver from Washington to Detroit, I think they have to have confidence in the knowledge and the experience of these counterterrorism professionals."
Brennan spoke on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Some more....
sit down and shut up
from these clowns.
If it weren’t for the criticism we would be in far more danger. we forced them to man up....
yes...enlightening words from the POS party who had no problem spouting crap for six years...
the same hypocrites who said daily GWB was creating more terrorists than he was killing, that our soldiers killed civilians in cold blood, and equated the soldiers in GITMO to Nazi’s, etc, etc, etc....
Heheh!
The Obama handling of the Christmas Day Bomber ranks as one of the all-time screw-ups by a U.S. President in the history of our country.
Where was this guy with his words of wisdom while Bush was president?
I have been thinking about the reaction of this nation to the next attack on American soil.
The initial reaction would be the same as 9/11. Horror, disbelief, shock and action to save as many lives as could be saved.
Anger, of course at the murderous bastards who were responsible.
I think once the dust settled and we were able to wrap our brains around what happened there would be a new element: anger directed towards those we held responsible for conditions that made such an attack possible.
I think our national rage would focus not only on the terrorists, but on the WH with laser precision. “We told you. This is your fault.”
It is quite frightening to think of what it would be like if the public blamed the WH for the next attack in real time.
There first must be an anti-terror effort before it can be criticized, moron.
Any Democrat with a passport spent the last eight years globe travelling critizicing the Bush Administration and every single aspect of the war on.......what is it now? Man made disasters?
No compromise with Jihadists or Socialists. Time for both to be slapped dowon.
Amazing how their only technique for dealing with criticism is deflection? An honest look at themselves would probably result in a shattered mirror.
The lie is that the Obama administration is doing nothing different than the Bush administration did. This is garbage. The Bush Administration developed a policy for dealing with terrorists. It's called GITMO and Military Tribunals.
Brennan supported Obama in his campaign which promised to close GITMO and move terrorists into the civilian criminal system and out of Military Tribunals.
At no time did the Bush Administration consider moving KSM into the criminal system and out of GITMO.
Richard Reid was arrested early on before these policies were in place.
Bottom line, Brennan is a lying sack which seems to be a prerequisite for inclusion in the Ibama administration.
...put some ice on it boys. oh, and FUBO

Criminals are out for themselves - they do things to enrich themselves or for their own gratification. They want to live to enjoy the fruit of their effort.
Terrorists want to to kill Americans. They will kill themselves or risk being killed to do it.
The next time something like this happens, apply that test. Send the criminals to jail, send the terrorists to Gitmo.
And we'll stop saying you're an idiot, managed by idiots... you idiot.
LMAO!!!
This Democrat piece of sh%% actually said that??
The gall of these people is breathtaking.
That's the problem. Stop reading them their Miranda rights and interrogate them. This guy is no ordinary terrorist. He was directed and equipped by AQ. He had time sensitive information. A 50 minute interview is not the way we should be treating these people.
The list, ping
It’s been six weeks since the incident, and Brennan just comes out with his plea to stop criticizing his agency’s actions. How dare he call his detractors guilty of politicizing the issue. Isn’t he politicizing himself?
