Palin Defends Rand Paul endorsement

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) defended her endorsement of anti-establishment Kentucky Senate candidate Rand Paul, saying that she agrees with his domestic agenda "for the most part."

Paul is running in a primary against Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson, who is backed by GOP establishment figures such as Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.)

Asked by "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace why she endorsed Paul, Palin said “Because he's a federalist and he wants the states to have more say and as we respect the 10th Amendment in our Constitution, he wants the states to have more say in a lot of these issues."

Palin's endorsement of Paul is one example of the tension between the conservative grass-roots and the Republican Party establishment, which have clashed on the best way to defeat Democrats. The former governor has brushed off the notion of tension within the party, saying that competitive primaries are good for the GOP.

Rand Paul is the son of libertarian Republican Rep. Ron Paul, who is a favorite of the Tea Party movement but is out of step with the majority of his party in Congress.

The younger Paul supports many of the policies his father does that are not favored by other Republicans, such as the closure of the Guantanamo Bay military prison and the restrictions on federal drug law enforcement.

Palin has staked out a position among the national security hawks in the Republican Party, which puts her at odds with Paul.

"But nobody is ever going to find a perfect candidate," she added. "There are things that I don't agree with Rand Paul, and yet his domestic policies for the most part, I do agree with."

Just a note, Rand doesn’t want to close Gitmo until the prisoners have been dealt with. They make it sound like he wants to close it and release them which is NOT his position.

Who are they referring to here? I don't believe that Ron Paul is a favorite of the Tea Party movement? If I'm wrong then I guess I'm out of step with the TPM. Hummmmmmmmm, He say some good things but overall he comes across as a wing-nut IMHO.

Rand is his father’s son.

Unacceptable to me. But then I don’t get to vote.

‘he’s a federalist and he wants the states to have more say and as we respect the 10th Amendment in our Constitution, he wants the states to have more say in a lot of these issues.”

This should be placed on billboards EVERYWHERE.

No candidate is perfect but the ones I support will be the ones that state over and over that the US federal government is required to stay the hell out of our lives.

I’m not sure how I feel about this? Getting back to a morale constitutional standard is a must. I’m sick of politicians, I’m sick of politics! Either recognize we created a standard in this country with principles to live by and adhear to, or get lost!

RP’s supporters were the first to hold “tea parties” in 2007, there are a lot of ex RP supporters involved in the tea parties and in Kentucky Rand is a product of it

The majority of the TP is a response to the dem congress and Obama.

I never thought I'd see people come out like they have protesting against dems trying to destroy the USA. I don't care who you are the Idea Of America is paramount to the success of this nation. It all starts with recognizing a creator who gives man rights!

Without this, there is no free country.

Buck the GOP “establishment.”

Brilliant. I really like Palin.

For all those who voted for Obammie the Commie because they wanted to change the system (and refused to listen to the evidence proving he supported crystallizing and controlling the system with Chicago-style, radical-left thug politics) you will have the chance to vote for REAL change when/if Palin runs.

Now, let’s see if you really vote for change or, once again, just jump on the pop-star bandwagon, unable to distinguish between what Palin really says and what the mediots on SNL claim she says in order to ridicule her.

After reading RAND’s website... it APPEARS that he is NOT the KOOK his father RON PAUL IS. I would consider him until I hear more.

The GOP Establishment wears clown shoes.

These people would lose to Downfall Hitler in a Jerusalem Election.

Best,
